    Gastric bypass patient here

Has anyone here gone through with a gastric bypass and went on a cycle after a year out? If so, what is your experience? It's been just over a year and want to gain lean muscle. These were my stats a year ago prior to the surgery.

    Age 36
    5'10"
    315 pounds
    42% BMI

today I'm at A steady 185-190 pounds and on a strict diet. 13% body fat. No excess skin.

Thinking about doing a cycle because of muscle loss. Don't know how it will affect my body being absorbed faster so any and all advice is welcomed.

First off you need to go get some bloodwork to see where you are. Secondly, as I am sure you know, after gastric bypass your body is not able to handle the amount of food needed to put on alot of mass, and what you do consume is not absorbed efficiently. My advice would be to consider an hrt type of protocal. However you need the bloodwork.

How large are your meals now? I.e. how much can you eat at one time. You may be eating every hour to take in enough protein to have some realizable gains from a cycle.

Thanks for your input. My blood levels are normal. I take my daily Vitamins supplements that consists of Calcium with Vit D, Pottasium, B12, and B-1. My meals are split up throughout the day. I'd say about 5-6 times throughout the day. Not large meals. I do consume a fair amount at each sitting to the point where I can't take in anymore. My stomach pouch will eventually stretch out more. When first out of surgery, my pouch was the size of an egg. Now it's about 2 1/2 cups. My current daily protein intake by shake is about 130grams and with the amount of lean meats, chicken and fish, I'm sure I'm beyond 300. Now the question I have is, can I get away with liquid protein intake if I'm not able to consume animal or solid protein? Again, thanks for all of your input.

To an extent you can....Did you have laproscopic bypass surgery? Did they also remove a length of your small intestine??

  10. #10
Yes. I had the laproscopic surgery but they dent remove any part of my small intestine. They just re-routed it. I'll post a picture up of my before and after progress and a diagram of the surgery proceedure when I get to my home computer. I know taking orals may not be the best route to go but will injectables be the same as far as absorbing into my system?

You need to think about dropping another hundred pounds.

AAS for you is not a good idea at all.

Although if you're very dedicated it can work.

    Do you exercise or lift?

What are you doing besides looking for the easy way, because there is no magic pill on injection to put lean mass on you or cut fat. Gastric bypass makes me think you like the easy way out.

If you can maintain 300g of protein you're doing well. i would max out at three shakes a day, less if you can really, but three at most. there is a bit of controversy on here about shakes. stick to as much real food as you can. lean meats.

i would assume that injectables are the best for you, and anyone really. but you will get a better answer from others than from me.

yeah, ok, but still he hasn't talked about lifting anything heavier then a cheeseburger. How long he's been lifting or trying to put on lean mass ect.

The injectable will be far superior! Especially in your case. Because of your surgical procedure your ability to efficiently absorb nutrients has been compromised. What that means is that you would have to consume alot more food and nutrients than the normal person. However, your new stomach pounch is not large enough to accomodate the amount of food/protein in shake form, needed to build alot of muscle and you definately do not want to strech that stomach out to much! I think that you need to get some blood work done. If all of your blood work comes back normal then you could consider a MD supervised hrt program. I think it would be a waste to run a bunch of harsh compounds that would require alot of food to benefit from. I would venture to say that years of being heavy have taken a tol on your test/ estro ratio and that trt doses of test could do wonders for your body. Obviously all this advice should first be checked out with your md who has knowledge of any pertinent preexisting conditions that would make aas use for you contraindicated.

No offense taken. I've been hitting the gym since high school and have cycled before. I've used Dbol and Finajet in my cycles but that was back in the early 90's. Since then I know there's been alot of different AS that hit the market and as far as what I see, it's alot more advanced.

I've lost about 130 pounds in a year and muscle along with that lost. Just trying to put back what I've lost in muscle. I'd like to get back to my fit weight at 225-230.

can you be more specific about your current workout routine
if you took years off when you were overweight ect

AAS following gastric bypass can be done with good results...I'm not sure if it should though. You might just be better off continuing to workout and eat well and accept your new form.

Oh yeah. I've taken about four years off and that's where I ballooned up in weight. My diet was thrown out of wack and it got harder for me to lose the weight. I've dieted so hard and hit the gym but couldn't get the weight off. That lead me to medical problems like sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Since having the surgery, all the medical problems have dissapeared and I have alot of energy. Blood levels are normal.

Currently, I'm hitting the gym 4 days a week. And this is my routine. If you guys see something that I could change then by all means, I'm open for advice.

    Monday- Chest/triceps
    Tuesday- Legs/Shoulders
    Wednesday-Off
    Thursday-Back/Biceps
    Friday-Off
    Saturday-Abs/Cardio
    Sunday-Off

My training as of now is basically gaining my strength back and maintaining it. I was a hardcore gym rat back in the day.

I really think this is something that should be discussed with a doctor and even still should be closely monitored by a doctor if it is to be done.

  22. #22
I have a Bariatric doctor that I see every three months. I've mentioned the possibilities of getting back on AS and he didn't really have a opinion about it.

I dont want to offend or piss anyone off By saying this but I just want to get on a 8 week cycle, get some mass and maintain. Let my body rest and possibly do another cycle 6-8 months down the road. What do u guys think? Possible?

  23. #23
Ok. I have read through some of the members threads about the gastric bypass. Though their are mixed opinions and some people are misinformed about the proceedure, I had done cycles and I think I would be pretty comfortable going forward with it. I believe that my caloric intake would be enough to see some muscle gain. Not a huge gain but enough for my satisfaction. I eat clean and often throughout the day. About 6 meals. I've learned from my body over the past year what my limits are. I'll post a couple pictures up and need your opinion.

  24. #24
Heres a couple of pics. This is a pic taken on the day of surgery Nov. 5 2008 at 315 pounds. The second pic was taken July 9. The third pic a week ago. and the final pic is a diagram of what the proceedure entailed. You can see the scars left by the surgery. 5 laproscopic incisions.

It looks like they did remove some length from your small intestine???? You have done well! Great work. I would run an ai during this for sure and I still say get some bloodwork and clear this with a doc knowledgeable about the male endocrine system and whether or not taking aas after gastric bypass surgery is safe in your case.

  27. #27
Thanks. I have a appointment to see my doc tomorrow and have some blood work done. Once I get my results in, hopefully by next week, I'll start my cycle.

After doing more research, it looks to be fine as long as I keep the protein up and eat clean. Though the stomach pouch is about 1/2 of what it used to be in the beginning, I should be able to hold a good amount of food.

  29. #29
Went to the doctors today and obviously he frowned upon it bur he said that is shoud be fine as long as I don't abuse it and let me liver values get back to normal after the cycle.
