fresh start..
sorry for this might sound like a totally stupid question...should i take off from working out for a week before starting my first cycle? the week off would allow all my joints/muscles to fully heal and prepare them for the heavy lifting..

Nah, don't take any time off, unless you're injured. You won't be doing any heavier lifting until things start to kick in.
What does your cycle consist of?

i know many of you dont recommend going under 500mgs per week, but after doing a crazy amt of research and after experiancing many friends cycles i have decided the following cycle would be best for me:
weeks 1-9 400mg test e (ugl)
weeks 8-11 40mgs winny tabs
weeks 10-13 nolvadex 20/20/10/10
my goal: super clean bulk
stats:
31
165
5'10
10%bf
lifing for about 7 years
its extreamly easy for me to cut up, i actually have an extreamly hard time adding some size to my frame...i got great info from members in the diet section and had great increases and progress from the advice given, however i feel its now to time to enter the dark side.

I think your cycle is a little short, I would run it 12 weeks. But, I don't think there is anything wrong with running 400mg EW on your first cycle. Even more so at your starting weight of 165. However, you say you want a super clean bulk, but also say you have a extremely hard time gaining size.
You won't gain muscle if you aren't in a calorie surplus. You will gain some fat when bulking. Since it's so easy for you to cut up, don't worry about gaining alittle bit of fat when bulking. You don't have to get sloppy but maybe you will be 12-14% when you're done with your cycle. Then after PCT, cut back a bit.

I'm with Cgb.. If you have trouble gaining then when your on a cycle counting calories and stayng to clean might not be the way to go.. Rmember every one is different. I for one gain very well on low carb high fat and high protein for instance. Experiment a little to determine what works best for you.

keep lifting before you start your cycle though reach your peak naturally until you use any gear
