HELP! Torn Pec 3 weeks into cycle!

I'm 27, Male, 5'8, 185lbs, have done a moderate amount of AAS, and been lifting consistently for many years. I had just started a bulking cycle of 750mg/wk sust for 10 weeks with 100mg/day anadrol for the first 5 weeks. 3 weeks in, feeling great and in the best shape of my life, I completely tore my left pectoralis major while doing flat bench barbell presses with 315lbs. I completely tore the tendon from both the bone and the muscle. I had surgery 6 days after the injury and right now it has been about 3 weeks since the operation.

What I need help with is advice on where to go from here from people who are unbiased in the use of AAS. It will be quite a while before I can even think about lifting again, but i was wondering if there is anything I can take or add to a cycle in the future to help strengthen my joints/tendons/ligaments?

Has anyone else had this injury and how well have you recovered?

Also, how do the pros know that fine line between training intense enough for maximum results without going too far and sustaining an injury like mine? I thought the program I followed was rock solid, as I have always gotten great results and rarely feel like I've over trained.

Right now I am just bummed out and looking for any help or advise I can get. Sitting on the couch nursing this injury had been been a nightmare and I would appreciate any positive feedback I could get. Thanks and have a great day!

HGH might help I agree. That is just from what I have read not personal experience.

Could you please come clean and admit that you had only done 315 a few times in your whole life and thought you would whoop some ass while on steroids?

Or if this is not the case at all can you give more details on how the accident occurred? Sets, reps, as many details as possible please?

That sucks dude, I feel bad for you.

It can happen to anyone at anytime, regardless of weight and form.

But...often bad form will do it.

Would you mind telling me how you got to 315 on that day...rep/sets? How many reps were you after at 315 that day? What were you benching prior to the cycle?

Your rehab and chances of getting 100% back will depend on the kind of tear is was and where the tear is. Is the injury close to insertion point? Also getting that Op done ASAP was the best thing you did.

Probably a cases of those tendons not being developed that Ive read so much about. If this is the case - admit this and we can use your experience to tell every 18 year old (and other people) that your muscles and tendons (and something else) need to be developed as well or you WILL (perhaps) cause injury!

At least use your injury to promote good health to others. And the karma will help your recovery.

I have seen this injury before with one of my training partners. For him he was really quite advanced and strong, and its nothing he did wrong to be honest. We warmed up well, up the weight slowly, we went up to a heavy 6 rep set at 425, then dropped down to 375 for 6, then dropped to 275 he was going to do some higher reps and the second push in it tore...So when its time its just going to go I think.

He did recover physically pretty well but never went really all out on bench again. I wouldnt try to heal it with anything but time and physio (best physio from someone who knows sports med, other wise you will wind up doing 3lb leg extensions for your torn pec repair...)

Sorry to hear this bro! Its a tough one metally to get over but hang in there.

Thanks for all of your replies and help. This is not one of the few times I have gotten 315. I have always been very strong on the flat bench but I have always given most of the credit to my triceps being very strong. Even in high school wrestling at 125 lbs, I was benching 250lbs all natural. I have always been in the gym until 3 years ago I went back to school and slacked off. Been back into it hard over a year and had been maxing @ 345. That day I felt great, jumped rope for a few minutes to warm up, flat bench was first exercise. Sets as follows:

    45lbs x12
    135 x10
    185 x10
    225 x10
    275 x8
315 tore right before 3rd rep
Was going to do a negative @ 365 lbs for last set.

When it happened it felt like a rubber band snapping and someone sticking a taser to my chest. I knew right away it was severely injured, stopped my workout and went straight to the Dr.

The tendon was torn from both the muscle and the bone side. The doctor said it looked like a bomb went off in my chest. They had to stitch the muscle to the tendon and then carve a trough in my humerus with holes drilled through it to pass sutures through to pull tension back to the muscle. I feel great now, but still cant move it because the stitches in the muscle are easy to pull through.

The only thing that I can say that I will definitely do in the future is REST ON MY REST DAYS. At that point I was just skipping the rest days and moving to the next body part. Also done with barbell benching, all dumbells for me!

Going to try and post some pics. Right after tear and 3 weeks out.

Gaaaaahh, no more flat bench for me, I never liked it to begin with. I'm sticken to dumbells.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune bro, what I would attempt to do if I were you is go on a cut. I know it'd be dangerous while not being able to lift, you could lose alot of muscle mass, but hell it's always nice to get ripped up and lean. Maybe by the time your done with your cut you'll be healed up and ready to hit the weights. Then you'll be a lean mean ass kickin machine.

Sucks dude but at least you had it stitched up proper. Thanks for coming back with all the details. Do some reading on GH the only thing is im seeing everywhere that its expensive and you have to do it for many months to get good results (like a year)

Hope you're back soon bro. I've been on HGH for a little over a year and a half. Really hurt my shoulder last year. It took me about 6 months with HGH to get it back. I've had similar injury in the past on the other shoulder and It took me little over a year to get that one back. I think this HGH stuff really works. I feel great and my joints feel great too.

    dam mate you poor guy

I am currently nursing a rotator cuff injury in my left shoulder caused through dumbell incline press - I heard it go and like you i just knew I was in shit. At the moment I cant do any pressing what-so-ever, been like it for 4 weeks now. Im at the point now where I can do triceps (but only 3 exercises) Legs (to the max) back is fine to.

But no chest, shoulders (aside light shrugs) Lateral raises with 2.5 kilo kills me!!

I feel I have about another 2 months to go. Today I done 12 sets triceps, 10 sets abs and 30 mins on the crosstrainer (one handed) It fu**ing sucks!!

I went to the doctors and was told to lay of the training and listen to my body, so now only do things that dont cause me pain, hell I cant even do biceps as when I turn my palm upwards to grab the bar It pulls on my shoulder area causing all kinds off pain (I can do light hammer curls on the rope though), and at night sometimes It kills! If mine is not better in a couple of months its surgery for me to

Rotator Cuff injurys for some reason hurt more at night

Anyways I was told by dr to hit the glucosamine 1000mg day to gives the joints some nutrition so maybe take that to help you.

So sorry for you mate I really am
