Steroids and Anti-Depressants
I am 23 taking effexor and wellbutrin and wanting to try taking steroids . The only thing is I dont know how the ant-depressants will react with any steroids. Has anyone had any experience with this?

My father recently passed away and I refused any anti depressants.
I thought it best to do this as depression can come about once youre off the aas. And Ive found exercise to be a great way to assist with depression. Though not everyone is the same.
Just my 2 cents, however a medical provider would be able to provide more specific advice knowing your medical history.Last edited by thisbmine; 05-12-2010 at 03:13 AM.

AAS do interact with CNS, so I would recommend you to avoid doing that.
In any case, the consultation with a psychiatrist and an endocrinologist is a must.

It depends on what you are going to take as to what will happen. You are inhibiting reuptake of dopamine, seratonin and norepinephrine with those two drugs. Tren can lower dopamine on at least one receptor type. It probably won't decrease the effectiveness of Welbutrin, but it might. You really have to take a little caber with it though, and that raises the dopamine on that receptor, thereby increasing prolactin inhibition, which is what it is taken for. So that breaks it even for sure. Test will make you feel less depressed, even put you in a good mood. It has nothing to do with your medication though. Estrogen side effects may aggravate your depression, but again, nothing to do with your medication. You probably shouldn't use clomid for PCT, that may aggravate your depression really bad.
Steroids mostly act on completely different receptors than your medication.
I would increase dosages of stimulants with caution, and watch for tachycardia.
You should also keep a close eye on your blood pressure if you take something like anadrol that can raise it by way of the heavy water retention.
That's everything I can think of as far as matching side effects. I also take Welbutrin by the way. Your combination of drugs is actually very common. A lot of people take those. I'm surprised others taking both of those have not replied.

It will just make you happy while pumping some iron.

I would imagine that once that test hits your blood you will no longer need anti-depressants

I know you can add to the depression if you dont follow your pct properly and your natural test levels crash..

That would be some crash dude. Muscles size goes down with your willingness to live. Doesn't sound like fun. Be careful bro.

Wow I didnt think I was going to get so many responses so quick...I appreciate everyones input though. I am going to have to go over all these responses and I guess talk to a doctor before I make a decision. What dosage of Wellbutrin are you on, if you dont mind me asking.

Originally for depression and anxiety but I have been on them so long that I think I would be better off without them at this point. I have started dropping them but it is such a long process that I only drop every so often. I think they cause more depression/anxiety then I would have without them.

I take a 150MG burpropion SR, twice a day. That's the slow release generic.
Like I said test will make you feel better independently and using clomid for PCT would likely be problematic. Other than that don't listen to most of these people. Conventional "wisdom" is in the dark ages on this topic. The role of brain chemistry was not understood well at all prior to the completion of the human genome project. There is still much to learn, but we do know that chemicals binding to receptors has a lot to do with how you think and feel.
I would think there would be a little more understanding here. After all, steroids work in similar ways. Androgen and estrogen receptors are of particular importance.
Personally, I just don't feel comfortable taking drugs, whether they are steroids or anti-depressants, without understanding them in detail like that.

In that case, if I do decide to start taking them, what would you suggest? I am around 5' 7" 170lbs pretty built, been working out for years. I want to get bigger and cut (of course). How does HGH work? Could it make you taller? I am going to start doing some more research into all of this. Thanks

Can anyone suggest a good steroid for a first timer? I want to gain muscle mass, strength, and get cut. Not too much muscle, just more then what I have lol.

No HGH won't make you taller. If you are lean and have a smaller frame then 170 is ok for 5' 7. 23 is a little on the young side but not too bad. Usually a long estered test like enth or cyp is the best first cycle.
Generally you want to choose bigger or cut. You need to keep it simple the first time.
If you have money for some var maybe you can cut for a few weeks while you wait for the test to kick in all the way. That would let you do a little of each and the var will give you some extra strength which might help maximize the gains you get out of the test.
However what you have to do first is research the side effects of taking testosterone . You need to be prepared to counter those side effects. Then you also have to plan post cycle therapy . You'll need to learn about needles and injection sites and how to do an intramuscular injection.
So no worries about your prescription drugs. Just decide if this is what you really want to do, plan your cycle and then just ask questions in this forum. You should have no trouble getting help from various people in here if you ask strictly steroid -related questions. But use the search, people don't feel like helping if you ask about easy to find information.
Oh and post new questions in separate threads to get more responses.
