Yeah, still no sarcasm font, so when you write something it is going to come across as genuine. When people of integrity get called a liar that's a serious personal affront. Personally if someone called me a liar to my face without serious cause and without being what I knew was sarcastic; we'd be throwing hands. It wouldn't matter if the guy was bigger, etc. That's a serious affront, and the worst I'm looking at is having my ass kicked for defending my honor. I've had my ass kicked before, so no big deal. But I promise you that guy would think twice about calling anyone a liar in the future.
You seem to want everyone to lighten up, so maybe take your own advice. I'd definitely be a bit more sensitive when you word things in the future, and I'm sure others will be more sensitive in their responses.
Oh, and respect has to be earned. When you're new to something you should respect the veterans, as it's their advice you seek. You are also entering their world, so you might want to mind your Ps and Qs. As a private would you have called a sergeant a liar?
