using syringe filters to clean UGL gear

hey there, just came across the idea of using something like a .22 micron filter to filter out UGL gear before you use it. you always hear about gear being contaminated with heavy metals and bacteria..so why do more people not just run it through a filter before you use it, i understand not everything gets removed..but for $5 a filter, i dont see the reason not too?

i guess you could do that, its just a hassle filtering gear..it takes forever.
Plus, not all ugl is bad..
