    Cycle for a sprinter

    Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and i must say it is a goldmine of knowledge. I still havn't digested all the info but I'm getting there.
Some background info on me first:

    Age: 23
    Weight: 90kg
    Height: 188cm
Years training: Involved generally in all sports from age 12. Started weights at 18. Trained lightly for track (60m, 100m, long jump, high jump) from age 16. Started serious training for track (100m only) at age 18.

60m Pb: 7.04 seconds (timed electronically)
100m Pb: 10.98 seconds (timed electronically)

I think it is time for me to try a cycle of steroids. Are any of you familiar with the book "speed trap" by the late sprint coach Charlie Francis?
He goes into great detail about the cycles his sprinters followed. I particularly liked the beginning cycle for Ben Johnson (he was 19 years old when he started steroids). It was simply 5mg of oral dianabol daily for 3 weeks on with 3 weeks off. Charlie reported that there were no side effects from this cycle.

I would like to get some opinions on the above cycle. I am concerned that there is no PCT, however I feel that the dose is so low and the cycle time so short that it may not even be necessary?
I also plan on taking some kind of liver support if i go ahead with the cycle.
The purpose of the cycle will be for improved training capacity and recovery, I am not interested in gaining mass, however If I gain a few kgs it wont bother me.
If you have any more questions on my background before you advise me please ask.

    Thanks for any input

Thanks for the reply. Do you think that cycles a bad idea?
I liked the book because it goes into a lot of detail on the cycles, as well as Bens progression of steroid use over his career.

i wouldn't use 5mg of dbol for anything. For sprinters i'd just recommend short estered test. The way you train has a huge effect on what characteristics your muscles take on AAS will just amplify that effect

Dbol seems like it would be a bad idea for a sprinter a lot of people say it screws up their cardio it definitely is causing me to get more winded right now plus it makes a lot of people more tired in general like drowsy. Though I guess sprinting doesn't exactly require to much cardio. But Not to mention a dbol only cycle is a bad idea you can lose a lot of the gains you make. Equipoise could be good it increases your rbc count by a lot and im pretty sure I've heard it was used by a lot of runners. Though it's not a good idea if you're going to be drug tested. If not though a test e and eq cycle could be good. Though the bottom line is you should probably wait another year before starting. Oh and if you will be drug tested maybe just a test prop cycle.

Sprinters like MMA athletes require explosive power. Straight Test cycle can reduce the collagen in the joints. Compounds like Anavar, Deca, EQ with small doses of Test to keep the endogenous level of Test in balance is what I recommend to the MMA athletes I train.

    Vlad,

I have read Speed Trap 4-5 times over the years. I don't recall 5 mg dbol per day. I thought it was 20-30 mg dbol 3 weeks on then 3 weeks off.

At a body weight of 170 lbs, Ben could bench 400+ and squat 600+. I saw him once at my gym in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The guy was in a track suit and he was quite small.

I doubt he could bench or squat that much on 5 mg dbol.

The weeks on and off routine was thought not to have interfered with the HPTA. They also used winstrol but Ben found it made him very stiff and took extra time to warm up. They all did.

I believe they stayed away from test except for suspension.

If your cardio is something in question and need a cycle to keep that up to par IMO there isnt much better of a cycle then test and EQ. Eq increases redblood cell count putting more oxygen into the blood thus increasing cardio and helping to get extra oxygen to the muscles. Test will give you some added strength and together both will add some aggression.

IMO if you are a sprinter you would stay away from anything that would add bulk or much mass.

not sure if dbol will be good for a sprinter mate, given the water retention that comes with the compound. as a sprinter, your focus will be maximal strength and lean mass. depending on the training phase that u're going on the cycle. if its winter (conditioning) phase, maybe tbol and some test will be ideal. when u're starting summer (peaking) phase, maybe some test with anavar or winny will be ideal. unless u can get hold of BALCO's magic, 'The Clear'! haha.

being a competing athlet in athletics I think you should stay away from steroids IMO. I used to race long distance at national level and if I had used gear to help me compete I would feel bad cos tt would be cheating. You'd be taking a serious risk to your career dude, all the anti-doping tests, you'd definately get caught out. I had one once and it was positive just from taking cold/flu medication!

Stay away from WINNY!!! Sprinting is hard on your joints and taking something that runs the risk of drying them out is not a good idea!!

Thanks for all the helpful advice, I appreciate it.
So the general consensus is to stay away from D-bol and go for test instead or to not use steroids at all. Having considered all things, I think I will wait maybe another 1-2 years and do more research.
If I do go ahead i will use very small dosages of test for short cycles of 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off. Has anyone actually done this? (bear in mind I am only interested in increased training capacity and not hypertrophy). It seems that the recommended cycle time for test is 12 weeks followed by a full PCT, why not shorter cycles?

    Kdub,
Believe it or not, Ben started on 5mg/day of D-bol, however he progressed onto other compounds at higher dosages over his career. It's amazing he became so strong on very little training variation in the weight room!

Thanks again, this is a great resource.
