My dad and one of his brothers have had prostate cancer...would AAS increase my risk?
I'm only 26, they both got it in their 60s. But seeing as how one of the known side effects of AAS is benign prostatic hyperplasia, I thought I'd see if you guys knew of any studies or reported cases of this.

2 schools of thought: IMO
# 1...if there is an existing problem, then testosterone will exaberate this
# 2...taking care of the problem early.. as in maintaining high testosterone like a male in his teens and 20's prevents problems and the reason for this? rarely does one find prostate problems in youth...only after loss of testosterone during the aging process, do problems begin...but...I am NOT a DOCTOR....this is based on some articles I have read...
so.. BumP!!!! ....curious as to what others say on this specific issue...and
WELCOME!

Have a PSA test and a digital exam to see how your prostate currently is.

I have heard and read the same thing as slimmerme. I believe there were some older studies that found test increased risk for PC. However, I think I remember reading that those studies were flawed somehow. The newer studies seem to conclude that if your test levels are up, then that reduces the risk of PC. However, these studies were aimed at test being at an optimal range, not in the BB range, so who knows what happens when running test in the half gram/week levels and up?
Since you have a history, I would go with a PSA screen for now. Recommended age for DRE is 50, but since you have history, you may want to drop that to 40. I've heard it is a real bummer for you and your woman if you have to lose a prostate!!!

I would approach this very carefully and think about the risk/benefit associated with this situation.
