    Aspirating

If you aspirate and blood is drawn, what do you do? Should you pull the needle out, switch to a sterile pin, and reinsert the needle (thus injecting the blood and the juice)? Or is the whole injection a waste, gear included? I've read on other posts that it's okay to reinject the blood, but this doesn't sit well with me for some reason. Thanks for the clarification.

It would stand to reason that the blood is from your body, and could not possibly become contaminated unless the internal surface of the syringe/needle was totally dirty- in which case you would not be using either anyway. I honestly cant see this causing any issue- its like eating your veggies before your meat: it is all going to end up in the same place.

I have only had blood show up once. I knew everything was clean, and the blood out of body is clean, so I changed locations and stuck again. No problems.

Thanks for the replies. I'd like to see some more guys who have done this and know exactly what to do. I was thinking what a shame it'd be to waste gear, especially if you didn't really have extra to spare. Then again, you can't risk hurting yourself over something like this, either. More experiences?

just think about this...when you want to inject, the air is "contaminating" the needle before it is injected. when you pull out, the same air is "contaminating it". when you pull the needle out, everything within the needle and syringe is sterile, with the exception of the first layer of molecules that is exposed to that "contaminated" air. technically, anything exposed to air is contaminated. as soon as you open your needle from it's package, it is then "contaminated". if you can see what I'm getting at here, then consider that there are millions of drug addicts that reuse needles and have no more concern of contamination beyond the simple rule of "don't share needles". and they found themselves to be fine...(but that is not documented, scientific fact, so please don't treat it as so. it is based mainly on my little research i did while being a science major and on numerous friends I have that are/were in that IV-drug-misery world, and their experiences and what they were told, etc.) and they were clean from any infections or diseases, which of course was my main point of all this. my friends thought you guys were either gay or just not aware of how it isn't as dangerous as they think when they are concerned if you shouldn't reinject a needle if you hit a vein. no, they aren't scientists, but, they have experiences that show things. and, i know my nurses in the past had no fkn problem pulling the needle out and reinjecting immediately, looking for a vein! a few times, twice so!! if that don't answer yer question, lol

^^^ for a science major that was the most un-scientific response I have heard. I would be more concerned about the fact you are taking blood from a vein, and injecting into a muscle... not sure if this presents an issue given that when you aspirate the needle in the muscle it shouldn't draw blood... so there isn't meant to be blood there... if you then hit a vein, drawn blood, and then inject into the muscle.

I am not sure if this might present problems with clotting or whatever, I am not a doctor, but I would be more concerned about that than contaminating yourself with your own blood.

Did this yesterday, just pull the pin out, swap needles (I do this because I'm paranoid and I like my needles sharp) and go back to town in another location.

Good info fellas. Slim Joe, would you mind elaborating a little? Replace the needle and inject again or replace the entire syringe and waste the gear?

While I can understand people concern over the fact that blood is not normally present in muscle tissue to any large extent. As long as you are not talking about a boatload of it, then the muscle can deal with it easily enough, think about a hematoma or any other sort of injury where blood winds up trapped in the muscle or under the skin.

That said for me I would probably just pitch it, since I do my own brewing, the cost of a shot of juice is less than a cup of coffee. On the other hand if I was buying ampoules of pharma grade gear I would not worry about pinning it.

Only happened once to me as well. I changed out the pin and went to a different spot.
