Anyone know about older people and AAS use? Im not educated here
So here is the deal, my buddy is in his 40's more toward the lower end. I have been training him for a few weeks and he has decided that he wants to look like me (not sure y, I want to look like fire guy). Anyway I threw out a feeler and he jumped all over it. I then decided to kick it to him and see how legit he was. He really wants to use AAS. lol, I told him he is no where ready but if he give me his all I can get him aligned over the next couple months. My concern are the health issues with older folks. Can anyone advise of major issues that I need to look into or have him look into? I will have him have blood work done, and he said something about his heart so I will need to look into this also. My obvious proposed cycle for him will be test 500/weekly. I will begin my research now also but this may save me some time. Thanks peeps.

I would do research in these forums in the group. They should answer most of your questions

If he is not ready he is not ready. Make him train hard, make him stay natural for at least a good hard year in the gym. Make him realize the gains he can make naturally.
If he wont learn to eat right, keep a good diet and train properly then he is not ready and he thinks AAS is a magic pill just like most of the kids do. Sometimes being older does not mean wiser.
No worries about his hear or anything like that unless he has a history of heart/health problems. The biggest concern will be lifting to much to quickly when he does start and hurting himself especially the rotator cuff seems to one of the main injuries of over 40. Dont let him go crazy thinking he can lift more than what his body is ready for, dont make big jumps in weight or he will be finished.

Great info, I know that his diet will definately have to change. We have a lot of talking to do for me to decide if he is capable of maintaining a diet and training schedule. He says that he is cool with nitrous for his body. It seems to work on cars lol.. He has no idea what is coming to prove himself and prove to me he is serious and committed. I will read the above sections also. Thanks again.

Tell him to get his PSA check and equally important his heart, kidney, liver, lipids, and a full blood count. Also keep an eye on his blood pressure.

No offense but if you have trained him a couple of wks and put out a feeler and he jumped all over it.....What you should do is examine your motivation? It seems likely it would be financial since by your own admission he sounds no where near ready for AAS, I really don't understand why you would dangle the carrot in front of him unless you thought he was ready to eat it.The problem is now if in the next few months you tell him he is not ready for AAS he will most likely go elsewhere for it as rejection is a bitch. Anyway good luck to both of you, hopefully he will show the commitment to diet and training that is needed. As far as health if his BP is within normal ranges I doubt he will have any problems early 40s is really not that "old" if one is in good shape.
Typed to slow again, anyway I will leave the post (not to be a prick) but to show that the poster above is not the only one who feels this way.Last edited by Far from massive; 02-21-2011 at 10:25 AM.

I train him for free, he is my friend, we show our cars together too so there is nothing in it for me except his progress. I train a few people actually that are my friends just because I like to promote the lifestyle, its the same as customizing cars. Its for the love of it. And for everyone I didn't say 40 was old! lol I said older (im 30..so 40 is older right?) I know better than to call people old lmao. Anyway, thanks for all of the contributions I have a lot or research to do and nothing is guaranteed that I will get him anything. He has no other sources either. I just admitted my use and told him he has a lot to learn before really getting on board. Trust me I refuse to be anyone crutch, he will have to learn and I will "teach/school/drill" him, but this is a big deal to me and must be taken serious. Thanks again all.

see bold. I apologize for my choice of words, I made a joke and he jumped at it then I thought on it for a few more sets and asked him if he would really use AAS as if I was shocked. Then it turned into a conversation and I eventually admitted my use as well as my researching for over a year before making the decision and the continuous learning ever since.

Yeah and make him realize that if the engine is not built up properly when you add nitrous it burns out almost immediately. I dont think he wants burn pistons or scarred bearings. LOL But really, it's the same concept, first you must build a strong foundation or you will just break things and it's a waste of money.

What's funny is you are going to wake up tomorrow and realize that's you. Time catches up with all of us and it's a lot quicker than you think. 50 is the new 35 and if you dont think so just ask Obama since soon you wont be able to retire until you are 70, that means all you 20 somethings can look forward to 80+ before retirement. Dont laugh. I remember as a kid when you could retire at 55, 58, 60, 62, 65 and now they are talking 70. Nice. It will probably be 75 before I get a chance.

Oh...I know...canīt believe Iīm 42. A year is like a month.
When I look at other 40 year oldīs, I canīt believe Iīm like them....
But absolutely no fear of getting older, just want to maintain health while doing it.
And thanks to HRT, not only healthy, but energized and vigorous. :-))
Re. retirement....U wake up each day, creating your own reality! If u donīt like it, change it! If u donīt like what your future looks like; change it! So if u donīt have a job that fills you with joy and accomplishment, then quit now, or plan to retire at 50. And if u live in the US......there is really no excuse for living whatever reality u want to create. The US provides all who wants to achieve/create with all the tools necessary to create whatever they want....(even with Obama at the wheels) :-))
