the average person needs to sleep around 7 hours a day. More if you are working your body hard.

I thought it was 8, but nevertheless,
what really matters is the quality of sleep.
If u have some type of anxiety, on meds, stimulants, suffer from apnea....etc, which will prevent u from reaching "stage 3" REM sleep, it really don´t matter how many hours u get. It´s during REM sleep we produce Growth Hormones, experience deep rest, strengthen immune system, amongst other beneficial stuff.
People differ depending on several factors. The younger you are, the more sleep you need. The harder you stress your body (lifting, etc,) the more sleep you need. There are rare people out there than can live off only a couple of hours a night, while the majority of us require 6-8 hours minimum.
