I always eat a big chunk of carbs and some protein before a workout, 45min to an hour prior. Usually something like a bowl of oatmeal and a piece of chicken or a tuna sandwich of the sort. Clean complex carbs with clean protein.

    Depends on your goals

When Im cutting I will have some Bcaa's or EAA's preworkout and even intraworkout.

If Im bulking Ill have a decent meal an hour before.
    With some aminos intraworkout.

The amount of carbs you have all depends on your macros for the day.

    For example....
If your macros allow for 600g of carbs then Id have 100g of carbs with each meal for 6 meals.

So have 100g of carbs with your preworkout meal.

Figure out your carbs for the day and split them up into your meals. Simple.

    600 was an example. lol

So that it was easy to show how you split the amount of carbs up per meal. i.e. 100g per meal.

Another thing to pay attention to is just HOW YOU FEEL.

Some ppl get sleepy from too many carbs.
If youre like that, then cut back on carbs before a workout.

Some ppl feel stronger and more energy with alot of carbs.
If thats you, then add some more.

Just experiment. Thats what this game is about.

Something that works for me, or you... doesnt always work for everyone else.

Haha, I take in at least 600+ during a bulking cycle. Carbs are easy to come by if you know what is clean. But Im usually popping 100g of carbs per meal, with a little bit extra in a postworkout meal.

Yup, well dukkit is right on his suggestion. Its all about how your body reacts to it, and how your body deals with too many carbs or not enough. Some people get puffy with too many, others dont. I personally am one of those guys who gets a MAJOR workout pump from overloading on carbs before a workout. However some people do get the sleepy feeling from too much before a workout. Just test it out and see what works best for your body.
