Anyone recall what "did in" Andreas Munzer?

I've heard so many rumors (or, rather, heard them back when this was news) as to what people claim was responsible...everything from DNP to slin to who knows what else. I just remember the guy being bone dry year round...it seemed like he did a contest once a month in stellar condition. Anyone recall what was "specifically responsible", if it's even possible to peg one thing down in that type of situation. NOt trying to alarm people here, but it is something I'd like to know.

seems i remember it was cytadren as well.
something about his potassium levels, and his kidneys. but as was mentioned above, he had a lot of different stuff in him, and he stayed on a lot of it year round.

andreas munzer was the most ripped bodybuilder of all time. too bad it took his life to be known as such.

He was a fantastic bodybuilder, but he did not let his body rest. His cause of death was an abdominal hemorage. It occurred during the night with his girlfriend finding him dead the next morning. As far as to the potential cause, the substances that he took interfered with vital physiological processes to such an extent that his body literally broke down.

Arch where did you hear that? I've always heard he basically dropped dead following a return flight to Germany. While his cycle was outrageous that's not what did him in. Munzer died of liver, kidney and heart failure, this was caused by his usage of Epogen. A genetically engineered version of the protein hormone formed by the kidneys that stimulates formation of red blood cells. It is used by performance athletes because it increases the transport of oxygen by the blood, but bodybuilders use it because it helps give the muscles a fuller appearance in contests especially after all the atrocious diets. Epogen also increases the thickness of the blood to promote a super compensation of glycogen in the muscles (to fill out during competition); somewhat like blood doping. Basically it was the deadly combination of being dehydrated from a lengthy flight and super thick blood.

archangel was right on the money. when he died, muscle media did a big story about it. i am not sure what issue. this is back when mm was a real magazine. in the article they blamed it mostly on halo. it was a pretty good article from what i remember. but i do know that in that article it was reported that his girlfriend found him dead and that a medical report said it was from abdominal hemmorage

Where are you and Arch getting this from? I've always heard and read he died after his flight, never heard anything about his girlfriend finding him. Unfortunately the whole event was exploited by the media which started again the dilemma about the dangers of steroids. The story was covered in Der Spiegel and Bild which titled their story "His Fanatical Wish Was To Be Better Than His Idol Arnold Schwarzenegger." He was in fact born in Graz just like Arnie. All over the place you see "his cycle", but truth is no one but him and some close friends actually knew what he was taking. I've always heard Epogen like I said before and that makes the most sense [From: weights, Number 1215, Tuesday, April 2nd 1996 Brad Kern] "I was talking to someone who knew Andreas and they also said he was taking EPO before his death." EPO is used precontest and coincidentally he was on a flight to germany for a guest appearance.

i only know what i read in the issue of mm and we both know that the media plays just about everything to extremes. this is the only reason that i said arch was right on the money. it was basically what i read. i think mm was the only bb magazine to actually publish that his death was related to gear. i am not 100% percent positive about the mag nor his cod. it is simply what i read.

a good clue is - EPO + Lasix(or any stron diuetic) = death

IMO it isnt the juice that is the problem, it is the diruetics that kill people - you notice that the ones getting hurt are comp BBs - your body just has to have a certain amount of water to process toxins - thats why all the smart fellas look like marshmellows year around untill contest time because those few weeks are the worst on their health

I dought the juice was that high. But the EPO along w/ lasix and other things that make your blood thick along with no water, cause his kidney's to shut down then it was chain reaction from there for other organs. He was also on plane flying back to Germany right after show and had no re-hydrated or anything.
