Thread: Overweight and want to change.

  1. #1

    Overweight and want to change.

First let me say I've never used steroids. I'm 31, 5'11'' and weigh 315lbs. I have relatively low upper body strength.

In my job, I want to move from a desk job to an outdoors job. It involves climbing ladders and inspecting roofs.

So while my goal isn't to turn into a bodybuilding showman, I would like to get suggestions on what I can do, and a steroid I can use to melt off the fat and help replace it with muscle. As far as a workout routine I've going to have to start at the baby steps.

But I'm afraid to go to the gym and get laughed at as the fat guy who benches 50lbs (pure guess).

    Please help!!

    Hey and welcome..

First off the guys are right your nowhere ready for steroid use.. A proper training programme and diet is what you need, unfortunately there is no magic pill, you can shift a lot of that fat quickly if u fully understand how to diet..

Also fat does not turn to muscle or vice versa, however building up muscle from training increase your body's caloric demands which will help burn far quicker.

Plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people on here, get over to the fitness forums read the stickies in diet and work out, then ask questions..
    Best of luck

    Welcome to the board mate!
No short cuts here, and no miracles to be found inside a syringe.
Ask anyone here, sculpting your body is a friggin bitch, and a helluva lot of hard work.
Diet + cardio + time = lower weight and body fat%.
go to the diet section, read and learn all about proper nutrition. post up your diet, and let the staff pick it apart.
for now, i'd skip the heavy weights and just stick to cardio until your fat melts off.
Peronally, I'd say the problem is wrong lifestyle, and until that changes, not going to really experience the result you want.

So... time to roll up the sleaves and get busy.
and I'd suggest investing $20 in some body fat calipers so you can track your progress.

    Good luck!

    Welcome!

I have been where you are (more than once) and I know it can be done. I lost 75 pounds once in the past, and have cut 40 pounds of fat this year. Changing your diet will have the biggest impact, doing cardio will add to it. Lifting doesn't cut fat directly, but adding some muscle has secondary benefits like burning more calories at rest...and just looking better.

There are some great stickies in the nutrition sections that explain how to get started setting up your diet, and asking questions in that section will result in getting great answers.

The important thing is to start now while you are motivated. You will stay motivated as the pounds come off and you start to look and feel better.

I'm sure you have heard this a million times but I will say it again.
When it comes to losing fat,,DIET is the most critical factor of all.
No matter what you take or do, if your not eating correctly your goals
will suffer. Get your diet and training in order for a few months and then
go from there if you want to enhance your weight loss with something.

    Welcome to the board!
You are where i was a long, long time ago. It was my birthday, i got on the scale and weighed 313lbs. I was in my early 20's and I remember thinking if u want to make it to see 30 yrs old something needs to change. Right then and there I changed my eating habits. Then I called my friend Jerry who was in great shape - big dude-worked out all the time. I remember saying listen I wanna start working out can you help me out. He said yeah cmon up and join the gym and u can workout with me. I was like Jer Im nowhere near you - his response " i dont give a fuk meet me tomoorow at 7:30." I did and we were working out - I said its embarassing people are prob laughing im so out of shape. He said 'who the fuk cares - besides u arent that important anyway - people arent watching you."
Best thing I ever did ....
Incorporate diet, cardio and resistance training. Set up a realistic plan u can stck too (ie 3x week done is better than planning on 5 and making 3).
Visit our nutition resource forum as well as our worout forum. Great help in both.
Most important dont take 3 months to plan- get going and do it - thinking about it or planning it wont do shit. You will learn and tweek diet and workouts for as long as you stick with this. Start off safely and prudently - but start!
Steroids are a long way off. Do this right and you will stick with it. It will change your life - it has mine.

Welcome!!! like everyone else said, go to the diet and workout section and start reading. Steroids would probably slow down ur progress in terms of getting rid of the fat. Ur body naturally doesnt want to hold onto that much bodyfat so if you get moving and start eating good foods more frequently you will be amazed at how quickly your body will change. Go to it now- go to the gym tonight or just outside, walk for 10 mins to warm up then try to run for a few minutes, then walk again for a few mins keep going back and forth. try to keep moving for at least 45 mins

EC stack or some sort of stim can help, and melting fat has nothing to do with muscle, you want muscle you need to work for it

Click the link to learn how to eat. Start a basic workout routine, don't be afraid of going to a gym, everyone started at some stage and most of the big guys I know are the most helpful. I'd recommend starting with compound movements-Squats, deads, bench press, seated row and military press. Do weights 4 times a week, start very light. Get your CNS and muscles used to the new shock. 20-30rep range. Get a trainer to show you proper form. That should be good for first 3 months along with at least 40mins cardio low intensity 4/5 times a week.

for what it is worth here is how i got to 180 from 290.
first and formost take the good advice and do you best to weed out the bad.

keep in mind i am 3 years in so dont expect anything quick. a good goal is 2 - 3 lbs a week and some say that is pushing it.

here is a quick break down of how i did it.

1st 4 months i focused on portion control only i had very bad eating habit so i didnt cut the junk just yet, but only kept my calorie intake between 1500 and 1700.

after 4 months i started walking on tread mill 30 min am 30 min pm. still kept to the junk at 1500 calories.

around the 8 month time i started cleaning up the diet as i felt i had portion control in check. and started adding weights and cardio.

    my diet is pretty simple

530 am 6 egg whites 1/2 cup oats

900 am 50 gram protein shake and PB

1200pm 7 oz chx 1/3 cup almonds 1/2 cup brown rice

300 pm 50 gram protein shake and PB

530 pm 7 oz steak medium yam and large spinach salad w/ tblsn olive oile

800 pm 50 gram protein shake and PB

two key things that worked for me one make a weeks worth of meals at a time. dont give youself any excuses to stray from diet (i.e i dont feel like cooking ill grab a pizza). hte other key i have never set a goal. i go hard for 3 - 4 months then take a 1 month break and allow myself to stray a bit from the diet maybe gain back about 5 lbs.

good luck and keep at it it will get easier and the guys here help a ton

Welcome! I'm pretty new on here too but from what I've learned cardio and diet will be your 2 best friends right now. I used to hate doing cardio on the treadmill or elliptical so I started hiking. It was so much better and now I love doing cardio. Maybe try something fun like that. Also go on the nutrition section on here...There's a whole lot of great threads. This forum has a lot of very knowledgable and helpful people. Good luck!!

Wow. I wanted to say thank you to every one of you who took the time to write a response. I greatly appreciate your care. You don't know me, and don't owe me anything, but by taking your time and giving me some great advice is priceless. I'm not real active on writing on forums so you won't see me much, but I'm going to use the advice you all gave me and the tools in this forum to make some real changes.

I bookmarked this page. Then when I saw how many responses there were, I wasn't sure if I was in the right place. Again, thank you all for everything and I'll check back when I've made some progress.

The amount of weight you lift is irrelevant. The intensity of your workout is what counts. We all started out lifting small weights.

Definitely do a lot of reading, and don't be afraid to ask questions. The guys in the nutrition section can help out. Stick around and let us know how it is going. If nothing else, check in if you hit a roadblock.

I was 334 10 months ago, 5'11 ... I got turned onto Var. I believe Var helped me lose 65 lbs with a better diet. My sex drive changed almost right away and I feel great and still loosing. I do allot of dancing in the basement with the door locked. lol I am having good luck with it. It is pricey though.

I'll just toss my personal experience in here too. This is what I did to go from 272 to 205

    7am protein shake & 1/2 cup oatmeal
10am 8oz chicken breast, 1/2 brown rice, 1/2 cup veg
1pm8oz chicken breast, 1/2 brown rice, 1/2 cup veg
    4pm protein shake
7pm 8oz chicken breast and 1 cup veg
    10pm protein shake

It wasn't easy but I'll tell you what it's a hell of a lot easier to keep the fat off then it is to get rid of it. Best of luck to you it's a tough road ahead but it can be done.

BTW I know most people would go nuts on that diet but I NEEDED the structure and after I broke the addiction to junk foods it's been super easy to eat healthy. You have to find what works for you and most importantly STICK WITH IT!!!
