    Sleep for recovery

is sleep the best natural muscle recovery? I find that I'm more sore when I haven't slept.

Sleep is very important. REM sleep is the most beneficial. Its somewhere between 11 pm - 3 am so make sure you're in bed by 11. And if you work out hard the standard sleep time rules may not apply. You might need 9 hours instead of 7 or 8. Also, make sure you eat something an hour before bed time. Night time is when your body is most anabolic. You should start dimming the lights and have it dark in your house/ room by 9. Our body perceives darkness as time to recuperate.

Sleep is when we repair and refresh hormones and when we grow. And after the first couple hours of falling asleep is when you produce your heaviest growth hormone pulse in a 24 hour period. So yes. Sleep is VERY important to healing.
