Liver question

Hi,
I wanted to start by saying that am a healthy person who exercises 4/wk and eats 3-5 meals per day. Supps i use are protein shakes, mutli vitamin, BCAA and milk thistle. consume low salt/sugar food and drink plenty of fluids. 8 month ago I noticed discomfort in my right side and went to diagnose. Did blood tests and abdominal CT scan. every time I do a blood test I notice my ALT is either near the top range or slightly elevated above range and another thing my total protein is always slightly above range. The doc was concerned about the discomfort am getting and advised in doing a CT scan. Found out that I had a fatty liver. He recommend to exercise and adjust my diet. Hmm my diet is perfect and very healthy and I do exercise so that puts me in frustration here. I don’t drink alcohol and considered to be a very light smoker. I had to be on Ursodeoxcholic Acid course for 30 days and within 18 days of drug usage the discomfort went away. so I was happy for a while until another 6 months and now the discomfort is back again. The doc told me I don’t suffer from any liver diseases and told me not to worry, but this discomfort is back again, so am a bit worried if it’s related to my lipid profile.
here are some results that would like you to comment on:

SGOT (AST) 17 (up to 40)
SGPT (ALT) 46 (up to 41)
protein total 8.3 (6.0-8.3)
albumin 4.9 (3.2-5.0)
globulin 3.4 (2.3-3.5)

*Lipid Profile
total cholesterol = 4.71 (3.6-5.2)
LDL= 2.46 (<2.5)
HDL= 1.32 (>1.0)
cholesterol:hdl = 3.6 (<5)
ldl:hdl ratio= 1.9 (<3.5)
triglyceride= 2.07 (0.6-1.7)

any comments guys?

maybe your diet isnt as healthy as you think.

As usual gixxer is right on point. Just because you feel that your diet is healthy does not mean that you are taking in the level of nutrients necessary for optimum liver function. On the subject of fatty liver tissue alone, there are many foods and supplements that affect this such as garlic, grapefruit, beets, carrots, leafy green vegetables in general, avocados, whole grains, olive oil, apples, walnuts, cabbage, Taurine, the list goes on and on. And your doctor may not be a nutritional specialist, so he may just try to prescribe a chemical when nutrition is what you need.

So what's your cycle history, assuming you have one since you're here?
A fatty liver (like high cholesterol production) can also have a genetic component.

Foods that are healthy for the liver fall into two main categories.

First are those that promote the detoxification process of the liver. And second, are those that are high in antioxidants and therefore protect the liver while it's carrying out its detoxification processes. Below are a list of the top eight foods that are considered to be good for your liver.

Garlic and onions.

Antioxidants help to protect the liver from the high levels of free radicals that are naturally produced during the process of detoxification.

Apples.

Artichoke.

Increases bile production. One of the jobs of bile is to remove toxins through the bowel, as well as 'unfriendly' micro-organisms. It has been suggested that 30 minutes after eating globe artichoke, bile flow is increased by over 100%.

Bitter leafy salad greens (dandelion, chicory, endive, rocket).

The bitterness of these foods helps to stimulate bile flow within the liver.

Nice work Deen. I was hospitalized very recently ago for acute pancreatitus which escalated into walking pneumonia and was put in a chemical induced coma to combat the diseases. When i came to the doc told me that i also had a "fatty" liver but it wasn't anything to be overly concerned about but upon leaving the hospital he told me to take Taurine and Folic Acid to help my liver. Well i've been taking them along w/1,050mgs of Milk Thistle everyday and i have no "cramps" whatsoever in my back anymore. Maybe those can help you too..

I have been reading alot about taurine myself and the many benefits it has...Bbrian is the guy from on here that told me to read up on it

I didn’t go to a nutritionist, but all my meals are low on fat, eat some peanuts/walnuts and black olive after two meals of the day to get my omega 3 fatty acids, lots of steamed vegs (carrots, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber). my carbs are from steamed white rice and oats, protein from chicken breast and fish (not much of a meat eater, but if i do i have grilled steak). take two multi vits a day. i stay away from bread and fast food. Recently i noticed this thing happening when i was on a course of antibiotics

ok since its my body and i have been taking record of supps am using when this happened. 1st time it started giving me that discomfort when i was using GNC BCAA pills. GNC directions were to take 3 pills per day. once i stopped the BCAA the discomfort went away (thats before taking any AAS)! after the discomfort dissapeared i jumped on my 1st cycle 500/wk of test e ONLY and happened again mid way of my cycle. when cycle started i decided to take small dosages of liquid BCAA. after then i stopped using it and head to the doc and prescribed me Ursodeoxcholic acid and fixed my issue. now its back after 6 months with NO usage of BCAA or AAS. another thing i dont take many supps and prefer natural foods as repla***ent of supps.

FYI: i cook my chicken breast with garlic and onions so becomes juicy and easy to chew

Deen thanks for the valuable info and it seems am already following most of your info you provided.... from this post i just came to conclusion that my liver doesnt seem to like supps, hence the antibiotic info i mentioned

I got diagnosed with fatty liver (fatty infiltration) through ultrasound scan and one of my liver enzymes were 8 points higher than they should of been. The doctor did not help me in any way at all just advised me not to drink much alchohol and its more common than people think. I tried another 2 doctors and they basically said the same thing although i told all three that i never used to drink often and my diet is clean.

Something that gearbox hinted to, Taurine has been shown to be successful in removing fatty liver deposits, among its numerous other health benefits.

Happy iv'e come across this thread and can start using some of the supplements and nutrition metioned as i wern't getting anywhere with the doctors and being the fact they diss supplements as they were trying to tell me no supplements will help the condition.

hey kml99...it seems that your nutrition is pretty good because i know alot of people who have zero nutrition and don't have a fatty liver. I think therefore..you are one of those
few who are more prone to illness in regards to the liver. Which means.. you have to monitor and be more aware than most of us. I would suggest you take fish oil... a good quality
one. Fish oil is high in Omega 3. I know you would rather eat fish, but there is mercury in fish. You cannot consume the EPA/DHA that your body requires because if you eat fish
daily. You don't know how much mercury you will be getting. Mercury is toxic to the liver as well. I would suggest you look up a supplement called Chlorella. This is a superfood. It
is a pure green algae. Has protein which is 37 times higher than beef, has naturally occurring amino acids, vitamins, minerals. It is also know to remove heavy metals from the body.
Anti cancerous, It is just overall a great supplement. I know you said supplements are not good for you. Why don't you try these two? Fish oil protects and nourishes organs, cells, etc..and you won't have to worry about mercury.... and Chlorella is a superfood for the overall body. You should see a naturopath instead of a doctor. I bet you they would help you far more greatly than a medical doctor. Trust me I've seen one and I got rid of some auto immune diseases than my med doctor couldn't. My naturopath fixed me up in 2 Months!!! So i'm a believer now. I also know the value of proper supplementation. You can reverse the fatty liver. Make that your goal.

I strongly agree with this. Your average doctor clocking hours in an urgent care/walk-in/family practice clinic relies solely on prescription drugs to treat illnesses, typically disregarding alternative medicine altogether. As an analogy, I'd rather treat anxiety with heavy exercise and a clean diet w/natural supplements than with xanax.

I take around 6,000mg per day on workout days. The primary reason I'm taking Taurine is to treat back pumps associated with Anadrol. I take 2g in the morning, 2g preworkout, and 2g during my workout.

Im a medical technologist, from what you are saying you got pain on your side, Liver problems doesnt cause "pain" in your abdomen. Based from your liver profile which consists of the sgpt and sgot its normal but with slight elevation. milk thisle is a good supplement for fatty liver. Eat healthy and continue to check your liver profile.

fatty liver is actually rather common, and frequently asymptomatic. it can be pretty stable and may never progress or worsen at all. maybe your doc is right. your pain is not due to a liver disease. one possible condition that may not show up on a CT scan is diverticular disease of the colon

did an ultrasound scan today for Pancreas, bladder, prostate, kidneys and liver and all came good....doc prescribed meds for gassy stomach.....he said to give it a shot for 3-5 days and see how it goes
