Should I not even consider a cycle?

    Hello all,

I am 43 years old and recently quit smoking after 30 years. I was also in a bad motorcycle accident a decade ago that left with very little muscle in my left calf so can't go too heavy on leg exercises. I am 6' and weigh only 165 lbs which I have weighed for most of my life other than a few years where I was working out regularly and taking 6000 calories a day and I made it up to about 180 and that was the most ever and I looked great but that was 12 years ago...lol

My point is I really would like to have the body I always wanted which is to be about 190 lbs but I am very afraid I have 'missed the boat' at my age now and my years of smoking abuse. I am just starting the gym and shocked at how weak and unconditioned I am with pathetic cardio.

Are steroids not an option for me? Is it too dangerous for me specifically cause of age and above facts? If I can (which I would love) what would be a good 1st cycle for me? Bear in mind - gaining weight for me is a ridiculously hard task for me.

Thank you so much for your professional and informed insight gentleman.

You need several years of training and diet before you think about it. If you train hard and eat right you won't need anything else.

    Welcome to the board mate!
You may eventually choose to try a cycle or two to see if that is what you want to do. Before you do, especially at your age, you have to give yourself a couple of years in the gym first, to allow your tendons/ligaments to strengthen up - they toughen up very slowly. Much slower then muscle strength. So much so that you will find yourself injury prone, lifting weight your muscles can handle, and your connective tissue can not.
So while you are waiting, focus on improving your dietary intake, read throuugh the nutrition section to do that, and focus on building a natty foundation.
And before you do that, go get yourself a physical, and possibly even a stress test. Additionally, you should go get your blood panels checked just to see how you are doing hormonaly, and to use as a baseline prior to cycling.
    Good luck

Thank you so much for the informative response. Makes sense. As on 'old guy' I guess I was just looking for a quick and easy path to my goal. I never thought about my ligaments and joints and it makes perfect sense that if I bulk my muscle strength quickly - I'll be lifting weights that will kill everything else that cycle does not increase/boost.

Again, thank you so much and I will troll this forum and do my best to get in a regular routine and work on getting in shape naturally first.

You guys are a class act - thank you.
