Steroids causing brain swelling?
there was an article in the Mirror (a newspaper in the uk and ireland 4 the americans on here ) about a 17 yr old kid who used steroids to help him make it into the royal marines and he died from brain swelling. ive never even heard a remote possibility that steroids can cause brain swelling so i was pretty sceptical, plus the article also said steroids cause prostate cancer, liver and kidney tumours etc. etc. all the usuall media bullshit u hear throwen around about steroids. linked the original article and another 1 i found.

The assertions that anabolic steroids were responsible for causing enlarged pupils, blindness, intoxication, severe abdominal pains, convulsions, brain swelling and kidney failure are pretty outrageous. These side effects are not medically substantiated adverse effects of anabolic steroids. Matthew Dear’s doctor even told the parents that he never witness any such reaction to anabolic steroids. The parents of Matthew Dear nonethless felt compelled to blame anabolic steroids
I also would think that the cause of death was something like a drug overdose i.e rec drugs which conviently wasnt stated

Interesting. One of the theories about Bruce Lee's mysterious death was espoused by his friend/student and the current husband of his widowed wife, Linda. This guy's name is Tom Bleecker. His book was "Unsettled Matters" which is free to read on the internet. He stated that Bruce Lee was taking a lot of steroids and that he had kidney failure/shut down and cerebral edema which is brain swelling.

This is debatable, look at people who run far more in a week then he prob did in a month (myself is prob included in this catagory), not to mention the newer compounds available in recent times which could be potentially more damaging and we wont even go into the pros, some of which prop run in a day what you would use in a month
The OP article is b.s. its the kids parents who say AAS killed him, same as the father in Bigger Stronger Faster, docs say it wasnt AAS but they convince themselves that it was because it is easier to accept this then the truth
His autopsy didnt state this as the reason either, neither did the article the OP linkedLast edited by DanB; 06-27-2012 at 12:52 PM.

Lyle Alzado died of a brain tumor and he said steroids caused it. That's not what the medical experts are saying. Wikipedia says that the possible reason for Bruce Lee's death was, "a delayed reaction to a Dim Mak strike he received several weeks prior to his collapse". Who know? There has never been an relationship, that I know of, between steroids and brain complications. Well, there is Acromegaly but that's in the pituitary. I guess if people can't figure it out it's because of steroids. It's the bad boy that gets the blame.

Great Documentary, "Bigger, Faster, Stronger". Its a shame what happen to that kid but, clearly he wasnt using much and he had mental health problems prior to steroid use . Also, why do they fail to mention he was on a anti-depressant...Known side effect is people committing suicide. I also watched a program last night with my fiancee on Oxygen or some womens channel. Was a program on young men using steroids (not one of them looked like they were a ounce over a 150 lol) Of all three cases where they killed themselves all had mental illnesses and on anti-depressants. Feel bad for the parents but, they are what I call miss guided do-gooders.
