    Musicians and singers...

How has AAS affected you? At first I thought it was great, I was playing the guitar faster, and just better overall, but then my voice started getting deeper. Now what used to be a pretty damn good voice is shite. I can't hit any of the notes I used to. Will this go away after I stop using, or is this permanent, and if so did you get adjusted to having a deeper voice, and just relearn to sing, or what?

Ok....I am a voice over artist by trade...and for me - AAS has helped...because im able to go much deeper than before. However - as far as I know - these affects are somewhat permanent. Over time it may reduce...but mine hasnt.

Not 100% sure but I believe its permanent. Testosterone causes a thickening of the elastic fibers of the lamina propria of the vocal ligament which results in a deepening of the voice.

Yea but for a singer? You think he can get that high note range back? I dont know - but Im guessing....I havent been off long enough to say what happens long term. Maybe it will go back a little but all the way? i dunno.... but hey - its not the end of the world! Barry white never needed to hit a high note!

If he's been singing long enough....maybe. The thickening of vocal folds though causes a deeper, courser tone. The best analogy I could offer is ventricular thickening. Long term use of some hormones causes thickening of the left ventricular wall. The changes are irreversible. I realize cardiac cells are not the same as laryngeal folds but I suspect morphological changes would be long term.

Me too. Interesting question. Would be great to know if it's reversible!

Nope. Testosterone can cause thickening of the vocal folds. Just how permanent it is or if it can be compensated, I do not know.

Cool. Then hopefully down the road 3 years or so when I'm jacked out of my head I'll be able to sing like Peter Steele.
