Steroids and depression as a gateway to other drugs

    Hi
I just wanted to hear people's thoughts on steroids and depression
And I also read something on a website about withdrawal symptoms
From steroids leading people on to other things like heroin what are people's thoughts on that ?

if there is a correlation between steroids and "other drugs" i'd imagine it to be a low correlation.

in fact, I'd think that many that haven't tried "other drugs" would be less likely to try steroids.

100% agree with this statement here.

I don't see how any individual can make a statement saying that steroids led them to other drugs? I think that's ridiculous and pretty vague statement if you ask me but that's just my opinion.

If anything, like the statement above, it would most likely be the other way around.

There is no interrelationship between the two, it all depends on the person and whether or not they have a addictive personality....then you could say the same for any drug you fool. Does this need to be spelled out for you or you can't come to a simple assumption for yourself, or maybe your just trying to cause a havoc discussion for your own amusement?

As someone who occasionally depressed, is on TRT, and an ex-intervenious heroin user, I have a couple things to say on this topic..

For anyone who thinks I'm lying or trolling, I'm not. For those of you who think I'm stupid, google American Mensa. I also do NOT have an addictive personallity.

When I lost a fiance, who I was in a co-dependant heroin addiction with, I got into bodybuilding. At the time I was 5' 9', 16, at 106 lbs. After 2 years of hard training I started taking AAS, from the weight of 140 lbs. Steroids are probably the most powerfull antidepressant there is, to the point that now, I don't drink a sip of alcohol or smoke one cigarette. Because I have no desire to. So in a nutshell, steroids are what cured me a heroin addiction and major depression from the loss of a spouse. Addictive substances are what gatewayed me to steroids, which I think is a wonderfull thing. That should mean something.

Before I started to Cruise and blast, coming off was horrible. I would have nightmares about my ex-fiance, and crave Heroin. So I ABSOLUTELY would say withdrawl is a gateway to the use of addictive substances or possibly suicide (I'm assuming about the suicide.)

I'm sorry if this came off as a novel / sob story, but I have alot to say about it.

    - Saber.

I too had a drug problem for years. Honestly in my opinion I traded one addiction for another. Healthier trade yes and no. I eat better sleep better and train but I'm still putting a foreign substance into my body for a mental and physical effect. But I wouldn't think with a normal personality aas would lead to other drugs. Steroids the new gateway drug. No. Don't think so.

I've had a drug problem and was real bad with prescription painkillers. Working out / using steroids helps keep me clean

I've never done anything other than AAS. Never touched anything, not even at a young age. I did however get serious depression from age 26 to 31 when I realized I had developed ED and didn't produce test.

I don't know that the steroids did but the working out and training did probably save my life. Or jail time.

Oh, I should have clarified! I meant withdrawl from steroids could lead to a gateway, back into a addiction that someone had previously.

I did / am doing the same thing, with the trading one for another, but it's all I would ever want anyways once I found it! bodybuilding + AAS = My passion / what my life is now.

So if / when you cycle off, you don't ever have cravings or feel sad / worthless? I'm not calling you a liar, that's just amazing!

I can guarantee I'm healthier now than when I would run an 8 ball a 5th of Jack and 3 packs of cigs on a Friday night. Then feel so bad on Saturday would do it all over again. I train work eat spend time with my wife and son and actually enjoy living now. Until tax season. Lol

Steroids can cause depression and withdraw symptoms, yes. But not to the effect of the rec drugs you speak of. Personally, i've only experienced withdraw during pct when i know i should have injected that day. And that's the extent of it. No shakes or vomiting associated w/things like alcohol. Just no way.
And for steroids to lead to heroin? Well, there's no way. Not unless you turn into a druggie that cares nothing more about their health. Which imo, is highly unlikely for some dedicated and educated people like ourselves. But is it possible? Yes. Everyone is susceptible to evil temptations.

I don't think anyone was saying that there were severe physical widthdrawl symptoms... I agree that steroids don't lead to heroin, but what about Pro's that start taking a shitload of opiates to cope with their extreme workouts and them wham? Idk, I just think anything is possible, however unlikely. And I agree it's unlikely!

drug abusers will always be around it circles around the weak. Ive never heard of anyone using juice coming off and a gate opening to use other illegal substances. We choose to do steriods and we know they are drgs just like the pill poppers know there using drgs. Its all a choice.

I don't think it would necessarily be the "Steroids and depression" leading people to other drugs...But more of a correlation between depression leading people to other drugs...And depression is very common, and people still make that decision for themselves to use drugs or not...Typically drug use (other then steroids) lead many people to depression...So basically, the depression didn't cause drug use...It was the drug use that caused depression and when depressed they just go back to what is normal to them....Drugs.

So theoretically, I don't think someone would really TURN to drugs because of depression alone but if it was something in their past then probably it would be an issue...

Not that I have ever synthesized GHB from GABA or anything But that stuff will really mess you up. You can have crazy sex on it, electric bolts through your body and all that shit.

In relation, wasn't MDMA a couples drug too, until...93' right? Does anyone remember when It was legal??

I experimented and abused almost every drug when I was younger and had an "out of control" type of lifestyle.

What changed me and kept me on the straight and narrow was the gym and bodybuilding lifestyle, not AAS. Only later in my life after I had been clean for over 5 years was when AAS were introduced. I can comfortably say though that because of my drug past that I was more open to the idea of using Anabolics.

Regardless of being "On" or "Off" I was always still in the gym training and eating right, and that's what kept me away from self destruction.

So you are the person we should be talking too.......Let's just say you could NEVER EVER lift again, how would you feel? Would you be able to handle it? I'm assuming drugs would come back because you get the feeling of fu*k it I have nothing going on so why not??

I started using AAS when i was 27. I have been a recovering alcoholic from the age of 24. I found AA at 25 years old and went through my 12 steps on my own. Have i had a few drinks since then? Yes. but i felt guilty as hell about it. Did i have other "stuff" presented to me? Yes. Did i accept or partake? No. My lifestyle is working out and taking care of myself. This is my life.

On the other hand, i have lost friends to drugs. One of my friends died from alcohol poisioning. Another, cocaine. They were in the gym just like me but went partying all the time. Over time, they allowed the drugs to take over cause they lost site of their job, their family, what they really wanted in life. But those of us who could have went down the same road, stayed the same. And we're still around showing the younger cats how to grab some 150lb DB's and flat benching them for 15-20 reps. Cause we can!

And we ultimately said no to the temptations.

I'm older and wiser now, something I wouldn't convert back to.

Hypothetically I got an injury and was told I could never lift again? I guess I would start to find out what kind of surgery needed to be done and find out how long until I was able to train again .

In all honesty I would find have to find something else to fill the void. I have more talents and skills I've developed over the years other then learning how to turn an apple into a lunchtime smoking apparatus .
