UPDATE ON:38 with LOW T NEED ADVICE PLEASE

So went back to the doctor and I ended up having to see another Doctor because the Dr. I originally saw was just helping them out?!?! So this LITTLE and I MEAN LITTLE guy comes in maybe 5’1 and 125lbs on a good day. He sits down looks at my chart asks me to take deep breaths as he listens and then tells me to make an appointment in 2 weeks and have levels rechecked?!!??! I said with all due respect are you not going to even ask me any questions about what’s going on???? He says although my testosterone levels were at 179, 175 is where he gets a little more concerned?? I then try to explain my energy and weight gain. He brushes it off. MY ARM IS BIGGER THAN THIS GUYS WAIST!! NO WAY in hell can he relate to what’s going on. I was so pissed!!! I stormed out and asked for my medical records!!! I then called an Urologist and made an appointment and asked a couple of guys at the gym about a new Doctor!! Any suggestions on how I should approach this new Doc? I’ve been on Androl Gel for 2 weeks but with all my research I agree with most of you that the Androl Gel is not effective enough for my situation! For god sake it came back at a 179 and with ALL the research I have done I have yet to see where something says 179 is ok!

Sometimes it helps to take in some print outs about what you are experiencing from the Internet.

Doctors don't always have experience with this kind of thing and sometimes having some research with you to show them can help to convince them.

I know it seems messed up that you have to actually educate the doctor, but I had to do the same thing with an unrelated issue to convince them to switch meds when previously they had refused to and it worked.

    Hope it helps

Damn brother thats some bs. 179? And he thinks its no reason to worry?I feel your frustration.Do a search in your city for a doctor that specializes on TRT.You gotta get some help asap.I dont know if the doctor that you saw is a regular doctor or a trt doctor but either way you need to look for one that works strictly in that field.Be calm but show your worry and your concern and express yourself frankly and open.Tell him youre sex drive is extremely low, that your energy level is on the floor and that youve tried gel therapy and its not doing anything for you.theres gotta be a doc willing to help.I just dont see you goin thru this much longer.Hope you feel better soon bro.

Androgel can most certainly increase your testosterone levels. It won't be nearly as effective as injectable forms but this doesn't make it a worthless product. If it's all you can get and it will take you out of a low level state, then it's better than nothing. Granted, it's not always enough for a lot of men but I'd be willing to bet a 10mg dose per day of Androgel would put you well above 300ng/dl...300 being what most U.S. physicians consider low. No, I doubt it would put you into levels that anyone would deem high.

Your best bet is obviously to go to another doctor. And you're right, 179 is low.

What a joke our medical industry is!!! Like I have stated my testosterone levels came back at 179. I have diligently researched this and found that it is indeed very low. The New doctor I saw today agreed it was low but quickly pointed out it could be depression and or sleep apnea that are causing my symptoms! I would agree some of my symptoms would be consistent with those HOWEVER I have yet to find anything that supports LOW T with sleep apnea or Depression. He did prescribe more Androl Gel because he does NOT like to write scripts for injectibles..But the cost vs. the results are NOT impressive. . Now the search begins on my own Any other advice would be great guys THANKS …….SO FRUSTRATING!!

Not getting enough adequate rest can lower your test levels. Low levels can also make quality rest very difficult...it's kind of a double-edged sword.

As I said before, the Androgel should be able to get you into a normal level. I'd go ahead and use it if it's all you have. It will be a whole lot better than living with low levels. From there, yes, search out a new doctor. There are plenty of physicians who will write scripts for injectable test. When you call to set up an appointment, you can always let them know your condition, tell them you haven't been satisfied with transdermal treatment and ask them if they prescribe injectable test. If they say no, make an appointment somewhere else. No doctor can force you to use him if you don't want to.

Your best bet will more than likely be finding an HRT clinic.
