    Welcome Dave.

Are you asking if you will get caught, re: medical testing? Or are you asking if AAS will effect your cognitive function and ability to fly?

I don't know the real answer but I can get it. However, my business partner is a pilot and so obviously he hasn't run into issues.

I have friends that are Pilot's. You don't want to get caught with anything illegal or else you could lose your license from the FAA or IACO. Note the word illegal. So if you have a prescription for Test then you would be fine.

There was an Airline Pilot recently caught with Anavar , I think he flew for a Hawaiian company and they threw him in jail. IMO it's not worth risking. Go to a doctor (even your AME) and say you have low test signs and he will check your test level. If it comes back low he can give you a test prescription. I have a buddy (he is an Airline Pilot) and he is on Test Cyp. (legally of course!)

You will need your second class medical for most airlines sir. As long as you are not dependent on any medication you're good to go. It also doesn't hurt to use the same doc every time you go for your medical and make friends!

Absolutely incorrect! You need a first class medical to exercise privileges of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP). No airline in the world will hire you without a first class medical that is current.

Well Dave, it looks as though I am the first pilot to respond to you. Boy it seems like forever since I was back training for my PPL license. You need not worry about the airlines catching you doing AAS. Unless you are really stupid and tell people or get caught in the action, no one is going to know. Just be careful who you tell. Aviation is a small world bro. You have a long time until your flying with airlines anyways. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it won't happen as quick as you may have been told. Anyways when you get your 1st class medical they are not testing you for steriods . So no worry's there. I highly doubt the airline you interview will test for AAS either. However I would play it safe and not use AAS 6 months before your interview just in case. You are going to spend A TON of money to get your training, why risk it? Biggest thing you will have to worry about when flying in the airlines is your meal plan and cooking. Take advantage of training until then and AAS if that is your desire. Hope this helps. BTW what school are you doing your training at? I graduated from UND Aerospace back in 2007.

What is this 6 month issue you speak of? No one's testing him for AAS.

wow this brings back memories, i received my single engine fixed wing certificate with IFR over 25 years ago now.

i think as long as you have 20-30 shots and a few pitchers before every flight you're good to go as far as most airlines are concerned.

I wouldn't think that they would test him either, but I don't know that for a 100%. I was just giving him the, "play it safe method". I heard some AAS can stay in the system up to 6 months thats all.

The random urine tests will not show AAS usage. The only thing that will raise a flag will be during your physical. High bp and/or rapid heart rate will be the ones they will question.

    Hey Live for the pump,
Great advice brother. I sure the airlines don't check for AAS but my only concern is the insurance. Can't every visit be tracked to the doc? What if you get a legal script for the AAS? Can your company get wind of the scripts your using on your insurance and figure it out. I'm also in the industry and this is my only concern. Let me know what you think? Thanks man

Here is one way you can.. while you must get a subscription in the US. Steroids are legal in a few other countries. Two countries were steroids can be purchase without prescription are in Mexico, and The UK. So theoretically then.....If you are a pilot, and you had a route to fly one of those countries like every day than the whole legal thing would be no problem.....

I'm sure he figured it out since he asked this question October of last year.

Nevermind that you're responding to a really old thread... It doesn't matter if he's taking a substance that is illegal in the country he's in or not. If your employer says you can't drink Pepsi and came up with a way to test for Pepsi in your system, if you want to work there, you can't drink Pepsi (DESPITE IT BEING LEGAL TO BUY/DRINK). But since the pilot already said that airlines don't test for gear, this is pointless to debate.

yeah, yeah,yeah..I would...also recommend thouroughly checking out the side effects as well..and recommend the medical route as well...but yeah..October of last year...this is a really old post --Now that you mention it...and the date in the upper right corner..........now the solution to that.. airline problem...if you had any, would be to start your own airline...Lol.........

Im a pilot. Few things. You need a first class medical to flyfor the airlines. Why in the hell would you risk $100k in training and half your life of committment to aviation for steroids ? If you get any complications from steroids, goodbye medical and goodbye career. If you get caught with steroids and get arrested then goodbye career. I fly privately so the medical is 3rd class and more relaxed. Plus Im not risking my career, I work for myself. Basically Im saying dont do it!!!

Anyone who acts as pilot in command of an aircraft is bound by the rules of the FAA regardless if they own their aircraft or airline
