Anyone scaired of getting broken glass in their gear?

Don't realy like using the 1ml glass vials that you have to break the glass top
I always think that fragments of glass is going to get into the gear.

Anyone else ever had this thaught?

yes, i think of that all the time... i score the vial all the way around, so when it brakes, its a clean cut, but i still think of the really small glass that you cant see...

I really doubt you would suck any glass through that pin. I have used glass amps many times and never had an issue

It's fine, just break it properly. Amps are usually scored already, some have a red or white dot. If they have a dot, make sure it's facing you and break away from your face. Use a 4x4 or the opened alcoswab pack to hold the top so you don't cut yourself. Take care to not touch the needle to the glass while drawing up to avoid contamination.

its happened to me plenty of times over the years "broken amps" and i honestly pin and hope for the best unless the top of the amp was totally crushed and there are a ggod amount of glass shards in the oil then i just cut my losses. always get a few extra amps for this very reason and also the fact that at the end of a cycle "depends how long" you actually lose some cause it stays in the vial and pin & when u come to realise it it does add up!

If you're really worried about it, invest in a syringe filter, pop your ampules all at once then transfer the contents into a sterile sealed vial.

(A site sponsor sells both syringe filters and sterile sealed vials.)

In all the years i've used amps(and still prefer, by the way) i've never had an issue w/ glass in the amp being so small that it might actually go inside the pin. They usually give a clean break or completely break in my hand. I think once, some glass went back in the amp. and i could easily see it.

if you're holding the ampules properly then it shouldn't be an issue. it's either going to break cleanly or be crushed. i've only ever had one crush on me, throw it away and start over.
