im 19 and have messed up test:estro levels (PLEASE HELP)
this is a long story fyi:
to begin, i went to the doctor to get my testosterone levels checked because i felt like i was having symptoms that indicated this.
my symptoms are:
*low libido
*low energy
*low motivation
*good amount of fat deposit in chest and sides of waist
*shitty gains in the gym. Very slow muscle building and strength increasing
these were my test results:
LH: 5.3 mIU/mL Reference range: 1.7-8.6
FSH: 3.4 mIU/mL Reference range: 1.5-12.4
Test: 458 ng/dl No reference range
Free test: 18.4 pg/mL Reference range: Not established
Estradiol: 40.2 pg/mL Reference range: 7.6 - 42.6
Progesterone: 1.9 ng/mL Reference range: 0.2 - 1.4
Estrone: 97 pg/mL Reference range: 12 - 72
...as you can see my Test. isnt bad, but my estradiol is fairly high (higher than i would want it). and my progesterone and estrone are both off of the charts.
Here is where i need some help.
To make a long story short i had an appointment with my Dr today and i got prescribed anastrozole. My Dr actually didn't know anything about anastrozole, and i dont think she really had any idea how to help me out.
she actually had one of her nurses call up a Dr who knows about male hormones, and he told them to give me anastrozole.
the thing is my doc literally just read about the stuff while i was in the office with her, so she ended up writing me a prescription for 90 tablets of anastrozole and the prescription says i should take 1 mg every other day.
from the little bit of research i read, this is too much and it will bring my estrogen too low.
If there is anyone knowledgeable about how much i should be taking i would greatly appreciate your help.

Yeah 1 mg/ed is bit much but keep in mind, she may not know what she's talking about but she DID contact a doc that DOES know about this stuff, & I'm sure she relayed the test results to him & the prescribed dose came from the knowledgeable doc.
So in short, obey the doctor's orders, those orders were handed down for a reason.

I hate to disagree with Bear (mainly because he frightens me when I sleep at night) but I do not think I would risk taking that much. Fixing this is going to require frequent bloodwork until this problem is resolved and I'm afraid that dose will do exactly as you said and lower your E2 to a level where it simply cause low etrogen problems. Now if your doctor suggested this and said do it for a week or 2 and retest then I could understand it.
I would ask for a referal to the Doc that supposidly knows this stuff or better yet, a specialist! Doctors prescribing hormone altering meds with no knowledge of what they are doing scare the crap out of me!

I am assuming each pill is 1 mg? That means you have 180 days worth of meds, I hope they are planning on checking you before the 6 month period is up? If so, and they ARE checking you up every couple weeks then it probably wont be so bad. Might want to check with the doc about what could be causing it though, pills only offset the underlying problem, if there is something with diet/previous cycle that went wrong you might want to work on that as well.

maybe this thread can also be moved to the hrt forum
i too was given a rx for 1mg EVERY DAY of arimidex ...like said above, you dont want to go too low and you are 19 years old and need to get to the root of this problem before you confuse it further

Same thing happend to me mate. I went to the doctor cause i had gyno and he gave me 4 months worth of arimidex and told me to take 1mg every day. I did so for 2 weeks then stopped because it was giving me bad insomnia. I just went to a plastic surgeon and got the gyno surgery. Now im left with Pharm grade arimidex for my next cycle and no more gyno oh yea life is good
