Research articles on effects of AAS use for the underage?

    Hello.

Scrolling through all these forums, not just on this website, but also on many others, I find that there is a lot going around on the importance of keeping the young (particularly under 20) away from steroids, the reason being that the HPTA is supposedly very sensitive in the stages, and that the chances of complete shutdown, or serious problems later in life, are inevitable.

My question is, is there any actual research and evidence on the topic? I know it would be hard to set up a steroid experiment involving people who are underage, but come on, there's not even one? I've searched the internet extensively for even one article, or something, and I've come up blank.

Nevertheless, (and yes I have read the young and the steroids sticky), I am thoroughly convinced you cannot take steroids at a young age without at least some consequences later in life. I just want an actual experiment or article to prove this theory that has been thrown around on countless forums and such. Also, if you guys have any experiences with, or know anyone who has had experiences with taking steroids at a young age (20-), I would like to hear them. I am looking forward to writing an article myself, later, on the topic.

    Thank you.

I was 20 when done my first cycle, and did a few more.. By the time I was 26 I was fatigued and tired all the time. Went to endo found out I suppressed my natural test level to under 200ng/ml. Was put on gel than a year later test cyp.

I was young and dumb, I was already a big guy. Was benching 465 lbs.. Have had surgeries on both knees and both shoulders..

Would I change anything, I would of waited a few more years.

Other than low test and have to inject my self twice a week other than that I have no issues..

The only thing I have wrong with that thread is the cycles posted in there are not reasonable for any age. Most lack pre and post blood work, reasonable first cycle (test only), no AI or HCG used on cycle, and no PCT or inadequate PCT.

I posted a similar thread to this on Saturday and the general consensus was wait till 25 to cycle.

there's no question taking exo test at any age will 100% shut you down.

I can tell you stories how this is a bad for youngsters when their hormone systems are preparing for full bloom, then getting shut down for months at a time, when they should be continuing development. Unfortunately, this is development time the young will never get back, so in essense, they are short changing themselves.

The FDA would never permit the type of study you are suggesting. How could they? It would violate their "do no harm" philosophy (although there have been studies in the past that have violated that as well.)

There are probably no studies in the old Soviet Union either. Why would there be? They really didnt' concern themselves too much with long term damage. All they wanted was victory, even at the cost of the athlete.

So, unfortunately, there is real thin clinical data, and mostly judgement and anecdotal evidence.

At some point, someone's going to think....

"Well, maybe these hundreds of members with steroid experience, many with horror stories from starting too soon, may know what the hell they are talking about?"

makes me wonder how many pre op trannies stop to think of the potential long term damage of their pending operation?

.....there is probably little clinical data in this area too.

my point is, these are extreme fringe areas, not mainstream, so no, you won't find much clinical data to support what we tell you with respect to youth and steroids.

I really like this response. Are there medical test to see if ones HPTA is done growing? From my understanding one can get an idea from blood test, but in the test I have read they group the ages 18-30 in the same range.

to the best of my knowledge and belief, there is no test as you suggest.

when you are ill and have a disease, quite often it will show with a blood/stool/urine test.

or when your long boney plates have closed and you're finished growing, sometimes an Xray can confirm this.

but this isn't a disease, or a closing gap in boney growth plates. It is a micro biological process within the brain, with organs that are not well understood.

And this is NOT a binary process, where one day the HPTA system is still developing, and the next day it's completed it's development. Instead, it's a slow lingering process, where the last year or so, the final development just trails off, lingering, and then at some point, you cannot determine if there is any continuing development or not.

    Good question though....
