    Ampules

Hi, when drawing from an ampule would you recommend using a filtered needle to draw from and then obviously a different one to pin. Plus...how do you think the best way to snap the top off is?

I use 18ga just like i do for vial. Then switch to 23's.

Some people score them. I just snap the top and hope it doesn't bust. Love amps but i always loose 1 or 2. Make sure you look at it and shake it to get the compound out of the neck and in the bottom of the amp. Rather elementary, but i've forgotten in the past.

The reason to switch needles is rubber stopper of vial, if you have amps, you can use one.

I always switch the pin so it's easy to draw and if the pin touches anything I don't risk it being dull. You should see the dot on the amp and hold it to break it off

i've noticed there are two types of amps. one with a dot in the neck area, and the other with a painted ring around the neck area. I'm sure there's mnore

But i snap the neck with my fingers. if there is a dot, make sure the dot is opposing you, instead of facing you. and very gingerly, with your thumb and forefingers, try to break with the break area initially away from you.

same thing with the painted ring around the neck, but i'll rotate the amp a few times, testing to see if it will snap easy, until eventually it gives.

I have on of those cheap plastic ampule snappers, but i prefer to do it with my hand, and i do not use protection. if you do it right, you won't need it. out of the hundreds of amps, maybe a thousand amps (not sure how many) that i've snapped by hand, none have cut me.

do not try with a pliers or any other tool. you will shatter your amp and lose your gear in the process.

Cheers. Read a few bits about there being a risk of glass getting in the amps but I'd imagine it'd be very hard to draw glass up a needle anyway.

I've burned through several hundred amps and have never had any issues with glass shards. Personally I think you are right, nonissue.
