Any veg heads or Vegans here?

I tried the vegetarian lifestyle while running marathons. Did it because of the awful treatment of animals. But, eventually went back to meat. Anyhow, decided to try again. Obviously getting adequate protein without meat is the challenge. We plan on becoming vegans at some point which would eliminate all dairy as well. Have I just kissed my size goals goodbye? Can I achieve lean muscular growth without meat? Thanks

Really? The animals would disagree. Anyways I'm not disagreeing with meat eating its the way our slaughter houses torture and make animals suffer. Dairy animals same thing.

I would think it possible, but the problem you will run in to will be the volume of food that would need to be eaten to reach caloric requirements. Combine that with the fact that many non-meat proteins are incomplete so you would have to find the combinations needed to make complete proteins at every meal.

There are also soy and hemp protein powders available, but from the little I know of it soy is an estrogen mimetic so you would need to research in to that further.

There are protein in quinoa, beans, wheat and other grain. There are also a lot of carbs in those same food. If you're trying to keep a 40/30/30 ration in protein/fats/carb you'll have to eat a lot of food. Your personal conviction will determine if you'll take animal/fish proteins. It's just easier to maintain the size with animal/fish based protein.

I think you have been persuaded by that PETA propaganda nonsense, which it total garbage. Sure, there is mistreatment of animals, but that isnt as common as those brain-dead PETA goons make it out to be. Now if it is a personal choice, perfectly fine. Animals are here for humans to eat, but if you decide to eat grass and grains, then that is fine too, they are meant for us too eat as well. But as a person in the know about farming and dairy/cattle farming to a great extent, they are not commonly mistreated. In fact, dairy cattle are treated extremely well.

But to your question. I suppose gains and mass could be made with a vegetarian diet, but it would be hard due to the quantities of food you would have to eat. Like that 30 Bananas chump on youtube. He thinks he is "ripped" and "shredded", but reality is he is scrawny and bony. But I would imagine that with all the grain that will expand, I would say that you would be extemely full for periods soon after eating.

I would personally weigh out the options. Instead of watching videos or reading articles that lean towards the mis treatment of animals (such as peta), check out the more "balanced" information and visit a farm or 2. It is the same with politics. If you only watch or hear one side of the story, that all you are actually getting, one side. Balance it out and decide. I can assure you that PETA is crap, and most farms treat their livestock very well. Heck, the work that the farmers put in to just feed he animals make me feel good about their treatment. My closest friend has only 150 head and he and a couple of others put in 12-15 hours a day just bailing hay and stocking feed. Add in the ponds dug and fences fixed, Id say the animals have a great life, then they in turn give me a great life. I love a heaping serving of animal on my plate. Yummm.

It a choice you have to make though. Totally your call.

Sad but true, you switching to a vegetarian will not save any animals..might as well enjoy life/meat while we can. Do vegetarians eat eggs?Fish? It seems theres so many rules

Vegan and bodybuilding arent impossible to mix but its hard...

If you are vegans because of the way they treat the animal why dont you look for a private farm and buy from them. You'll pay more of course but youll be able to see how the animals live and decide if its ok for you.

If not that lifestyle and that goal will gives you trouble...

    Good luck

Whilst you are a vegetarian there are more choices for protein. If you are pescetarian there are even more.

If you go vegan then your choices are severely limited and you will be relying heavily on supplements (powders as mentioned above) and things like tofu, TVP, processed 'meat alternatives.

OP, I don't know how much you know about commercial farming, but millions of rodents and snakes get killed every year by just combines alone in the harvesting of grains. Animals die in the process of feeding us, it's unavoidable.

You should however; be relieved in how humane the animals are slaughtered. It happens so quickly, they don't feel any pain. Those animals die in a way that is more merciful than the way you're most likely going to go. There is no suffering at all in their life or their death. They're well-fed their entire life, they get everything they desire and their end is so quick, it's painless.

And it's not like they're killed for no reason and their carcass is going to be wasted. They lived/died for a purpose and they're not going to waste.

Did you know PETA kills more dogs/cats than most humane services? yeah go figure... Typical Hypocrites.

Yes animals are meant to be eaten. I have asked a lot of them and never once have they argued otherwise. God put them here for our use as service animals and food.

What do you think the appendix is for? It use to be to help digest raw meat. If we were meant to only eat vegetables we would have a stomach and intestinal system like a cow. Cows are herbivores and humans are omnivores.

Vegans are scary.......organic food is actually organic.....poor animals.....

Never met a vegan person who I thought wasn't an idiot....maybe someone out there though. Seem to believe everything Dr. Oz says and if exercise at all usually some zumba or yoga....if that counts.
