Problem with rubber stopper on vial.

So i ripped the entire metal ring off the vial, ejected some air into the syringe (to maintain pressure) and injected it into the vial. As i did this, the rubber stopper came loose. Was this my mistake, or is the vial just poorly manufactured? It took a few minutes to even out the pressure again as every time i went to draw the oil, it sucked it back in to the vial!

Are you supposed to take the whole metal ring off of leave it on? Any ideas on how to keep the rubber stopper on securely?

Sorry if this sounds like absolute stupidity.

    Your at fault here

The metal ring is crimped on to ensure the butyl stopper stays in place and that the solution remains sterile

I would transfer the oil to a different sterile vial.

Haha, I remember doing this my first time around. Chalk it up to a learning experience; flip tops are supposed to have the metal ring attached upon properly removing the plastic cap.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think i need to re-filter the oil as the cap didn't actually fall off or anything, it just loosened up and i had to push it back in securely...air did get in though. No pain or swelling was felt in the injection site (glute), if that's any indication that it hasn't been contaminated.

I might just use masking tape to secure the metal ring back on the vial again.

To make things worse, some rubber from the cap went into the vial as i used an 18 to draw, what is the worst that can happen..hopefully it sticks to the bottom.

Also, how do you prevent a vacuum in the vial (ie as you draw, the vial sucks the oil back in)...injecting air is what caused the stopper coming loose in the first place. Will stabbing another hole help with the pressure balance?

I don't think he's got a spare vial or filter around. And he's probably going to have to google autoclaving.

The solution is to not rip off all the metal that was crimped on the glass. You're only supposed to pull the plastic lid off.

I almost always just rip the crimped metal thing off and just take the rubber top off each time and then stick a syringe in with no needle, pull the required amount and twist the needle back on then shoot..... Saves so much time when shooting every day
