    Possibel T3 issue

Just thought I would post this up as ffod for thought. My wife has been on levothyroxine (thyroid med to treat hypothyroidism) for years.

Under some advice on this board that T3 would not be an issue for someone who suffers from hypothyroidism she began a 100mcg ED protocal. After2-3 weeks she started feeling bad. Lethargic, tired and both of her hands went numb with the finger tips tingling. This persisted for about a week during wich time she stopped using the T3 and went back on her scrip meds after some advice that it could be a thyroid issue.

She had BW done that determined her thyroid was way over active. and the Doc wanted to cut her meds in half. The BW was done around 10 days or so after stopping the T3.

Since stopping the T3 use she has started to go back to feeling normal again with a bit of risidual hand numbness that seems to be getting slowly better.

The point is 2 fold. 1)ARR T3 is legit and 2) The thyroid is not something to take as lightly as seems to be believed by many around here.

What were her numbers before adding T3 and after? What was her weight loss during T3?

Some people add in just a little T3 (as low as 10mcg ED) to bring their FT3 to the high-normal range, or if they are poor converters of T4-T3. Maybe she would have a better reaction if she did a lower dose next time?

If you cant produce enough cortisol to keep up with the amount of t3 in the bloodstream, you will feel like shit.
My ADHD gets much worse above 75mcg/day, my sleep is awful, I can't stop eating, etc etc etc.

    The sides are uncomfortable, yes...manageable?...yes.

100mcg/ed seems like too much for her to start with. Most don't need to start with that much, especially women.

100mcgs is way to much to start. I started at 40 and worked my way up to 80. I will never go tht high again. Can't sleep, sweats, loss of focus I can go on and on. I know some people ramp up to 120mcgs within two weeks. Anyway 40mcgs works great the bf loss is slower but u will save muscle.

Yes and no but more yes. Body mass dictates a lot as well as other hormonal levels. When you take these things into account when administering thyroid hormones this can change the amounts needed by men and women.

If it's something she'd like to try again I would get her feeling normal first and once she does start with 25mcg/ed and increase to 50mcg/ed as needed. 50mcg/ed may be all she needs. From there, if an increase is needed and she's tolerating it well, try increasing 12.5mcg. I would make all increases from 25mcg and above in 12.5mcg increments and only every few weeks as needed. Again, the 50mcg/ed range may be more than enough.

I agree , but a 25mcg starting dose is a waste of money.

Lunk why didn't your wife discuss a t4 t3 combo like Armour with her doc? Plenty of hypothyroid people don't convert t4 to t3 at a normal rate and have to supplement with both of them.

And fwiw there's much less of a difference in thyroid hormones in males vs females than as stated above. Body mass plays a minimal role IMO.

For most men I'd agree but if you're a woman there's a decent chance 25mcg equates to more than you make naturally so it could be a good starting point. Anyway, just my opinion.

Sgt. She was already on scrip thyroid meds as I mentioned. She dropped those when she started thr higher dose of T3 for weight loss purposes. After she started feeling like crap she dropped the T3 and went back on her meds.

How's her diet when on T3? I ask because I found when I run T3 and no / low carb I feel like hell. But I add in carbs (or clen in my case) I feel a lot better.

NOTE on the clen I run t3 up to 120 and cut calories. Then two weeks I cut carbs and add clen up to 120 as well. Then the two week off of clen I'll add back in carbs but cut calories in another macro.
