The quads are the four muscles,
1.Rectus Femoris
2.Vastus Lateralis (Externus)
3.Vastus Intermedius
4.Vastus Medialis (Internus)
that work together to extend the lower leg. The only muscle that you should be pinning is the Vastus Lateralis and the only place this muscle should be pinned is the approximately 4 inch section mid thigh (midway between the hip and the knee).
Hope this helps.
PS while the glutes are the largest, pretty much free of veins and nerves and hold the most volume and the Delts are easy to hit and pretty much free of problems. IMHO the Vastus Lateralis should also be used as its always wise to rotate sites and as long as you are careful where you inject and have enough sense to back out if something feels off, its a pretty friendly site.
