have torn labrum... need to strengthen shoulder to make it through wrestling season

its my senior year in high school ... I have been working hard in the off season ...lifting weights , conditioning and have had over 100 matches..3 weeks ago I tour my labrum in the first match of the day...shoulder popped out again in my 2nd and 6th match...went to a specialist the next week he wanted to operate but cant do that because I would miss my senior year of wrestling and would lose any chance of a scholarship...doctor said that I needed to get my shoulder stronger to have a chance off making it through the season...thinking of taking steroid to give me the edge I need.... the season starts in December...don't want to gain a lot of weight ...i am 5' 8" weigh 140 i have been working with weights and bands since my shoulder injury but have not wrestled...but am going to a tournament in 2 weeks...
i have never taken steroids before and am a little scared of needles are there any pills that could help me get my shoulder stronger...

Steroids are not the answer. Keep doing the work with bands and light weights. Youtube shoulder PT exercises and take it slow at first.

your not old enough to start using because you'll disrupt your hormones too much, and if you use a compound that converts to estrogen, you could stunt your growth. Granted a non-estrogenic compound wouldnt, but the possibility of disrupting hormones is still there if its more than a few weeks long. You see, at your age your hypothalmus is trying to figure out where it wants to level everything hormone wise. You will be more sensitive to suppressing your testosterone levels , and they might not bounce back as fast. It would have to be a really short, 3-4 weeks of non estrogenic steroid , but honestly, all those ones generally make joints not feel so great, so it may hurt your shoulder more. I wrestled and had both labrums torn. Actually you can wrestle and lift on torn labrums for awhile depending how bad they are. It might only hurt cuz you just got the injury. Good news is, they can fix labrums easy and get you back to 100%. The surgeries are great nowadays for that problem, and your young so youll heal fast. I had mine fixed 7 years ago and they are perfect. I would just tough it out, work through the pain, take some ibuprofin and see what you can get done. You might not need the surgery to finish out your career. But even if you do, its only a 4 month recovery. Im sure by next year you could have all your strength and skills back, and after you beat out the other guys in your weight class maybe they reinstate your scholarship. Either way, tough it out, dont worry about ****in it up worse, they can fix these things. Do what you gotta. i think steroids would a negligable effect. Start some light weights on it and start drilling with your partners. Theres nothing that will "heal" with a labrum tear, its torn cartlidge and tendon. You got what ya got right now. It wont get any better then it is by resting it, it'll just hurt less. Well, your a wrestler on scholarship, pain isn't an option. There is only pain and inflamation. Try some ibuprofin. Hit it hard with 800mgs 3x every 6hrs for the first few days. Theyd have you on that after surgery anyway. Back it down to 600 after a few days, then 400, then 200. If you find you still need it, ask a pharmacist whats the longest you can take ibuprofin and at what does. Naproxem sodium(Aleve) may help to. Dosing is diff. Ask about both. If your arm keeps coming in an out of socket tho, it may be to far torn. in which case you could be jeopardizing the other structures on the shoulder, rotator cuff etc. You need to start with some light weights NOW, test it, see how it feels. Then if its okay, go right to moderate weight. If thats good go to your heavy stuff. Do this over the course of a few days. Also get wrestling. Go light, tell your partners your testing out your shoulder and do some "mock wrestling" to warm up. See how light pummeling feels. Then go a little harder., and a little harder. Drill some moves. See how it feels to pick a guy up. The very last thing you want to test is shooting for legs, unless its an ankle pick., but not high crotch stuff, that sprawling on their part is what tears labrums alot in the first place. Get to work soldier.
    Good luck

Think about it...You don't want surgery because you'll miss your senior year or just wrestle and mess it up even more...To the point where you'll never wrestle again..There goes your scholarship..

You shouldn't do anything when you're injured except recover...

First line of approach is physical therapy...Labrum actually has a HIGH % for recovery with physical therapy..Do that for a few months and see how you feel...

    Physical therapy first, surgery LAST........

And yes, don't wrestle unless of course you feel your senior year is MORE important then your future....

Also, steroids ? No, don't touch them, no point...

Furthermore, are you going for state? Are you qualifying for anything?

From experience do not push through it... I was a high school all American baseball player with potential and I pushed through my torn labrum and eventually had the surgery but I did not return good at all, due to Injuring it so bad pre surgery .

Steroids won't help and will cause other issues in your body. Think of your future brother

    Cheers

    ^^Yes, it's true...

No steroids and I honestly wouldn't try to wrestle if you're injured..It's just going to make it worse..

Did you have second opinion from an orthopedic surgeon? And did they confirm it with an MRI?
