    Controlling BP & cholesterol

I've been thinking lately about those 2 things as I'm getting older.. My BP tends to shoot up em even though I'm using cialis 5mg twice a day along with Arginine.. I know I need to increase my uptake of water a little..

Cholesterol is another one, is there any over the counter? I mean I can a low dose generic!! I'm Hispanic and everything that can probably will do to genetics.. Thyroid, heart attacks and bypasses ( grandfather had 3 triple by passes) diabetes, high blood pressure..

See that's why I love to work out, I love it... I know I can clean the diet up a little, but what can I do with the hand that is dealt to me!!

You want Slo-Niacin. Red Yeast Rice and NAC will all help cholesterol. Plenty of medical research to back them up.

Using Niacin to Improve Cardiovascular Health - Life Extension

Hawthorn Berry Root may help with BP.

Plant sterols and soluble fiber have also been shown to have a small but significant effect on total cholesterol and LDL levels.

I could use larger doses of humor please.

Good comments Kel and Doc. Plenty of OTC compounds known to regulate lipid metabolism and its certainly worth sharing the wisdom as this is a very important topic!

We were able to get my father off Lipitor and his BP med (forgot which one he was taking) just by watching his saturated fat intake, increasing his fiber, adding plant sterols, and a healthy dose of exercise lol. His doctor was amazed that the regimen worked as well as it did.

Yes, unfortunately many of my colleagues act like drug dealers pushing every pill possible instead trying alternative, healthier therapies for patients. I personally only prescribe dyslipidemia drugs in rare cases of hyperlipidemia in older or sedentary patients who I know will not make dietary or lifestyle changes.

I know exactly what you mean. My aunt is a consultant to NYC metro area hospitals, her son my cousin is a pharmacist, my moms cousin is a neurosurgeon in. Kansas, my other cousin is a LPN, second cousin is an RN, and I know a few more people in the field. Pill pushers are everywhere. Instead of fixing the problem a magic little pill is prescribed to make you feel like the issue went away when it hasn't. There's a lot of corruption in the field many aren't aware of.

"A pill for every ill" is the mantra in medicine these days and docs are paid to treat, not cure.

Sounds like someone neglected to swallow the blue pill during their Hippocratic Oath. I'd like to thank you for looking after patients first and big-pharma second

That's the way medicine should be IMO. Patients health and well being should be the number one priority.

When people see $$$ they forget the reasons they started off on a certain path. I can't say I wouldn't be tempted myself but I could be happy with very little money and my character is worth more to me than what's in my wallet. When I can figure out how to enjoy the luxuries of both, then I'll be one happy DocD hahaha

Metamucil and oatmeal daily can help improve cholesterol levels.

Yea adex can certainly affect lipids.

My father was on Lipitor and through probably some of the same OTC items he was able to come off. Nice to hear man, less medication is much better IMO.
