Why taurine for back pumps?
Could i first ask exactly what is happening in your body when u get a 'back pump'???
Why do steroids exacerbate this?
And what is the reason taurine is taken to combat this?
And does taurine itself have any bad effects on the body itself?

The back pump you feel is fluid building up on the muscle cells, and it can hurt, especially considering you use your lower back muscles to stabilize yourself at all times when standing or in an upright position.
So the pump is osmosis, it's the rate of fluid rushing into the muscle cells and the rate of fluid pushing out of the muscle cells.
Taurine is an amino acid found in meat and fish. Its a conditional amino acid, which means the body can produce it, but those who can't need to get taurine from food or supplements. Some take taurine for heart wellness, blood pressure, high cholesterol, and liver diesease, and it also serves the body as an antioxidant.
It seems to lower the rate of blood pressure pumping into and out of muscles and therefore calms the pain from the pump, and calm the nervous system as well. A good dose for bodybuilding is 6-9 grams/ed, or less depending on the severity of the back pumps.Last edited by Igifuno; 12-09-2013 at 09:27 PM.

You also asked about side effects. Upset stomach, diarrhea and peptic ulcers are common with too much taurine. Also, Vitamin D3, Zinc, Vitamin A seem to enhance natural taurine production.

The 'back pump' that many bbs describe is in the lower back. Its a painful tightening cramping feeling. I get them very bad.

I get them bad when I do crazy amounts of reps on squats. OP, I recommend you reduce your rep range and stretch your back when you begin feeling them. Last thing you want is to mess up your lower back.
