    Need help! (Sleeping/recovery question)

Hi guys, i have a question regarding sleeping and recovery. i've been concerned lately, when i sleep i usually get around 8-9hours of sleep, but the problem is that i wake up in the night, often, maybe 3-4 times and sometimes ill stay awake for 20 minutes or so, is that going to affect my recovery?? Also i am hungry in the night but i don't know if i should be eating something like a protein or oats bar, sometimes ill eat a piece of cheese or banana just to make my stomach stop growling, any advice would help.

Yes i have, also tried benadryl, but it only helps a little bit like if i wake up 4 times i night before ill wake up like 2-3 times, so not a whole lot of help.

I also go to bed around 10:00-11:00 and usually have a hard time going to sleep, sometimes takes 40 minutes or so to fall asleep. I don't know if going to bed earlier would be better, if that would have any effect.

There is a lot of research on eating carbs (even complex carbs) that causes all kinds of issues in the sleep cycle. This spawned from the Sugar Busters book research. One of the authors used to be my doc. The banana is a no go at night. In addition, eating carbs before sleep will cause your body to produce more natural cholesterol. Not good if you have an overall cholesterol issue. Protein and good fat are okay, like nuts. Make sure you're not drinking anything with caffeine or other stimulants in it. Just some ideas. And, like Derek says, get checked. Good luck.

If you are not trying to lean up, I'd def recommend eating during the nite.

This may sound dumb, but nasal strips did wonders for me. Apparently I snore like a hurricane. I started dating a light sleeper and it was effecting things (she'd move to the couch in the middle of the night, not good) so I took action. I gave those breath right strips a try and I can't even begin to tell you how much better I sleep now. I used to always wake up in the middle of the night, now its rare. I feel alot more rested in the AM too.

Worth a try since its cheap and wont put any more chemicals in your system. I have to imagine getting more oxygen with less energy expended to suck in that oxygen over the course of the night is good for gains too.

if your truly working out for 2-3 hrs then stop cus your probably frying your cns and are overtraining...you are doing this all wrong no matter your age but especially at 18yrs old...my advise would be to stop what you are doing and educate yourself...you have your whole life to get big, whats the hurry and at what expense?...

Please explain how i am possible doing this all wrong? I've been training for almost 6 years, and the reason i workout so long is because i recently renewed an old gym membership and have been working out with my brother and he works out at a slower pace then i do, so i workout longer then he does so i feel accomplished. I usually do more intense workouts usually in the 1-2 hour range.

Long workouts are not necessary to grow.
