Question HCG, Clomid, or both? Low Sperm Count...

My wife & I been trying to get pregnant for close to 1yr.(33yrs old) (probably didn't happen because i was on cycle)
Been off cycle for about 4months. Ran proper pct for 6wks after (clom/nolva/hcg )

Sperm Analysis/ Test / FSH / LH (Results)

Sperm Count - 10million /ml (Normal is at least 20mil/ml)
Progressive (sperm % actually moving forward) - 18%
(those are the only two redflags I believe in sperm analysis)

    Test Serum - 484 ng/dL
    LH - 5.6 mIU/mL
    FSH - 8.2 mIU/mL

All my urologist said was to test sperm count in 1 month again. He did not suggest anything else (No changes , no clomid, no hcg, hmg, etc...)

I have both Clomid, and hcg on hand (no hmg)
What do you guys suggest? I wanted to try something for a month or 2, then go back and get another sperm analysis & bloodwork done.

Did you talk to him about the HCG / HMG? The doctor might be wanting to get a good baseline on you before writing you any RX. I would cut down on the sex (cant believe I said that) and no masturbation. Drink lots of water and see how things go in one month. Someone with more knowledge should jump in here.

I asked him, and all he said was "we will see after a few more sperm analysis"

But hell, that's $200-$300 out of my pocket each test. Insurance doesn't cover infertility, and I can't really afford a ton of random sperm test (unless he's making changes to me, to improve test results)

Over the counter antihistamines increase sperm count, and are often prescribed to increase fertility rate.

I've done a lot reading into this recently because of the Mathis case. It seems that some urologists are prescribing Clomid to increase sperm count. I've looked everywhere and can't find any peer reviewed studies that back this up. There is anecdotal evidence but nothing solid. Because Clomid is now a generic it is unlikely that any company would shell out the millions of dollars it would cost to run clinical trials.

Doctors are prescribing it as off label but it seems they aren't sure it works. I suppose you could try it but from what I've read you have to take for at least 90 days to show results.

I was just hoping to give something a try over the next 6-8wks, before i fork out another couple hundred bucks on another sperm analysis.

I came off a long cycle. To get the wife pregnant. My count was low deformed and slow moving. I told him about my pct novla clomid and hcg . He said that's exactly what they would have prescribed. I had to do 2 follow ups and I was fine. The wife actually had to have surgery to open clogged Fallopian tubes. We have a fantastic son now. Time. Give it some time.

You're probably right. I just seems like forever because we have been trying for a year. But I have to look at it as I just came off cycle 4mths ago.

Did you do anything (additional clomid/hcg ) after your standard PCT? (During those months)

Save your time and money, dont have kids. They suck the life and all your time out of you. I love my kids but I could be just as happy with a lot more money without ever having children.
