    This doesn't make sense does it?

    The endo said I have very low thyroid levels and wants to put me on Synthroid . He wants to start me on a low dose and
    gradually increase until the level is "normal". Isn't this basically t3 and doesn't it suppress the thyroid function, not boost thyroid function??

    Synthroid is T4 not T3.
    Oversimplification:
    Thyroid produces T4.
    The deiodinase system converts the T4 into T3.
    Your body then uses the T3.

    Taking T4 or T3 does not shut down the production of T4 until one exceeds the body's need for it.
    Approximately 100+ mcg of T4 or 25+ mcg of T3. (Body weight dependent. LBM I think.)

    Let me restate:
    Oversimplified and approximated.

    It took my dr 3 months to dial in the correct dosage for me .
