Were They Doing it Wrong in the Early Days??

So, I came onto this and similar sites to work out the "where to get it" question.
I've since shelved that for the time being and immersed myself in learning everything I can BEFORE I even start shopping. My one and only ever "cycle" was a weekly injection of 1cc of T-enanthate (100mg - I think). No PCT, no AIs, no blood work. I was stupid. I got the bottle from "a guy" I knew.

I'm amazed (now) at just how much balance and planning is involved in a cycle. Been reading Austinite's postings and it seems that for every possible risk - there is a balancing measure to keep it in check. Then to read posts from members here who have been doing cycles for 20, 30 and more YEARS!!! There has to be something to the science.

So why the horror stories all over the internet that tell of this former Mr Universe who is a medical wreck now and blames it all on anabolics??....or all the young dead professional wrestlers??....hair falling out, balls falling off, kidneys crashing, aliens flying out of your butt...(ok, I made that one up).

Is it mostly because back in the 70's, 80's, (maybe the 90's) they didn't know all we know today? Did HCG , Clomid, Nolvadex not exist until just recently?? Or is cycling really the Russian Roulette that the BBC and National Geographic want me to believe when I watch their documentaries? (They are clearly slanted AGAINST steroid use .)

Of course I understand there is NO risk free ride when playing with your hormones. But has the bodybuilding community gradually discovered how to do this a lot safer than back in Steve Michalik's days? Would like to get some perspective from some of the old timers.....

Its hard to say .......did they do it wrong? The used what they had available and applied the knowledge that at the time was accepted. There will always be abuse regardless of how much education is available. One of the problems is that there just isn't enough solid and up to date medical research being done and documented. We all read the same articles that have been around for along time......that's all we have. I am sure some athletes had great guidance (at the time) while others cycled irresponsibly.

50 years from now, people will ask the same questions about this generations steroid use and think of us as "idiots". Times change, and there will always come something better and safer.

Back in my early steroid days, we didn't know much about PCT or have access to such potent steroids as we do now. 100mg's/ml of propionate , d-bol and weak ass Deca was all that was really around in my early steroid days. Sustanon 250 was also around, but very pricey and hard to get.

These days you can get some very strong gear up around the 400mg/ml mark for a variety of anabolics.

I have been wondering the same thing. I kinda figured they ate better, stricter, trained damn hard and were on lower doses of gear than lifters jam in their bodies now. They were also a different generation that understood it was a lifestyle and commitment...things would take time...no immediate gratification.

Most of my mates in my gym, don’t even know whats a PCT.
The rest, does the “typical” PCT, that’s HCG and Proviron .
Only little complained about ED, and only little got gyno.
Everyone recovered well from Cycle and the most got very good results, there are even guys that cycled more than 10 years without a clue whats a PCT, and they seems to feel good.
That being said, I think, sides are overrated, which is good. Better safe than sorry.

I've noticed when I tally the numbers up, I'll be spending close to 3x as much for all the ancillary gear as the actual Test-e if I do it all correctly. (Or shall I say "as indicated by knowledgeable members of this site". ) I liked what the small dose did for me. Want to see what 300mg /wk will do.

I remember about 25 years ago or so the only information was from a book I think was called the "Underground Steroid Book." It may have had some great information but I was always afraid to order it because everyone would see the name and I did not want to have it in my house or seen in shipment. If it was called something else I probably would have bought it.
