anyone been to phuket recently?

hey there, firstly sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section - new to using a forum for info on gear.

ive read quite a bit bout gear in Thailand - most Google searches find ancient posts from various forums. I am heading to Phuket as Christmas this year (from Oz) and was wondering if anyone could give me some more recent/updated news on availability/best most reliable brands/rough costs for gear in Phuket, Thailand. has any body been there recently?

Also im aware that Bangkok and Pattaya are better places for gear, but im not going there so any info on Phuket only would be muchly appreciated.
