I did read some random articles confirming it's use in bodybuilding.

Holy water or "G" is indeed a party drug and is not groundbreaking by any means in the muscle gain or fat loss dept. Bodybuilders perhaps may choose to minimize/avoid alcohol intake...and so drugs such as ghb allow them to abuse themselves in social settings while dieting and/or providing respect to their livers which are being abused by oral anabolics & high caloric intake/etc....
Bodybuilders discovered it first. Years back you could buy it any most every nutrition store. It helped you get deep REM sleep and also reported to increase HGHQuote:
