eat clean and drink more water
Water retention can be due to a number of reasons but if you're natty, salt may be the biggest contributor. When you say, "increase my calories", that can mean a lot of things. If you're bulking I would recommend that you take 40% in carbs, 30% in protein, and 30% in fats. Then go to the gym and work your rear off. You need the carbs to fuel your growth. The carbs should be clean like potatoes, beans, salads, legumes. The protein is anything that moves and healthy fats like nuts and natural fats from protein sources. You really shouldn't be holding too much water unless you're taking something.
