    finasteride and prolactin/testosterone

    It's me again

I'll try and keep this story as short as possible..

For 4 years i was using finasteride 1mg ED to combat MPB. The tablet definitely helped preserve my existing hair and stopped further loss. I decided to have 2 hair transplants as my hair was in an awful bad way - and being young i couldn't handle being bald at 21! (i am now 24).

Whilst i was on the tablet i made very slow strength and mass gains, i thought i had reached my natural limit. I noticed tenderness and puffiness around my nipple area after around 3 years 6 months of use and decided to get bloods done. The RESULTS showed that my TESTOSTERONE LEVEL WAS AT THE LOWEST LEVEL which can be classed as 'normal' and my prolactin levels were 50% higher than the maximum for a male. I immediately stopped using the tablet and expected hair loss to return (leaving me with a completely unnatural hairline). However, No hair loss occurred during 4 months when i wasn't using the tablet - and i guess this is due to my testosterone level (i.e. levels of DHT in my body and conversion would be minimal based on my testosterone level).

So now I am using AAS for the first time and certainly feel the drugs working. Now, i have the problem regarding hairloss again. I have started using finasteride 1mg ED once again - very reluctantly. I expect the tablet to preserve my hair - as it done a very good job when i was using for 4 years. I am aware that the finasteride will prevent hair loss with the hair i had BEFORE i had the transplants - and that the transplanted hair will be unaffected by DHT.

So basically, i'd like to ask - is it possible my testosterone level was caused by the finasteride in the first place? Please be aware that that i had a blood test after discontinuing finasteride use for 4 months - and my testosterone level was the same, however my prolactin levels dropped back into normal ranges. i am 24 years old and decided to use steroids due to my testosterone level being at the lowest point of normal.

Is using an AI (arimidex) a sufficient drug to prevent prolactin levels rising while using AAS?

I think finasteride messed up my testosterone levels - buts its hard to say due to the levels not changing after 4 months of discontinuing use - especially when there was such a significant drop on my prolactin levels.

Shaving my head is out of the question as it would look ridiculous with FUE scars, different lengths etc. Scalp micro pigmentation is also not an option - as i am tight fisted as hell these days and can't be assed spending another penny on my hair (with the exception of finasteride while on cycle )

Thanks so much again guys - I appreciate your help and trust your knowledge.

    G

The worst thing to do is jump on steroids because you have low testosterone levels . You're only 24 so you should try fix them not make them worst. Have you used steroids before this?

Although using finasteride, or any 5alpha reductase inhibitor, is not recommended while your HPTA has not matured, you should have done bloodwork prior to using and confirmed DHT was high or elevated.

If you have low testosterone you and your doctor should do a proper diagnostic to understand whats happening. Blaming it on finasteride without any further investigation can leave the main reason undiscovered.

Well i thought that because there was no difference in 4 months after discontinuing use - that the cause of my testosterone level was not cause by finasteride. No, this is my first cycle.

Mr BB - Ive gotta be honest I'm unsure if DHT was actually tested - the doctor called me saying everything was normal with my hormones. I will contact the doc again to check if DHT was tested (which was around 4 weeks ago). What do you recommend i do regarding my cycle?

You've got two options carry on, on the cycle or stop now carry on with hcg and start pct 14 days after your last shot of test.

It depends on how good your pct is, I'd do pct then follow that with a low dose hcg and clomid for a few weeks. Wait at least a week after stopping extended pct before getting bloods done.

Thats poor advice. HCG is supressive. Blood test a week after clomid is useless, as clomid will still be very active.

OP, just follow Aust "Successful first cycle" sticky PCT and, do bloodwork 8 weeks after PCT.

If your testosterone was low when you started cycle, it will be normal to be low again. You should have tried and pin point the reason for the low T before starting the cycle.

As for your hair, its not a fight you can win, if you have the genetics to go bald you will sooner or later (your case seems to be sooner).

    Thanks for the responses guys

So will using arimidex prevent my prolactin levels getting too high? Or is there another drug which I should use instead?
