    Finasteride - Testosterone & DHT

Thought some of you may be interested in this. Been on Finasteride (5mg daily) for about a year now and I'm currently running my first cycle in that amount of time (I am on TRT btw.) Just a low dose cycle to help rehab from a partially torn bicep tendon. Test @ 400 and Deca @ 250. Also ran some low dose Anavar @ 20 mgs to help with collagen synthesis but that ended about a month prior to current BW.

Fina is a 5-AR inhibitor and is reported to block about 70% of the conversion of test to DHT via the 5-AR enzyme. Dutasteride by contrast blocks over 90% by virtue that it blocks both the type 1 & 2 enzyme as opposed to Fina that blocks only the type 2. Anyway, to make a long story short, I wanted to see how my numbers were while running this cycle alongside Fina as I've read in a study I have that it's tested effective on a dosage of up to 600 mgs Test.

    Results:

    DHT: 22 with a range of 30 - 85.
My psa dropped over half a point as well during this time frame.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone concerned about their DHT and or PSA levels while cycling.

    Hope it helps!

Wow! Maybe this should be turned into an article for a sticky? This is actually pretty astonishing in my opinion. If it were anyone else, I would almost not believe it. Did you take the finastride specifically for this, knowing you were going to get bloodwork?

No, been on it about a year now for psa issues. Normally my psa would run around .6 to .7. Ran some bw and it came back at 1.2. Didn't think to much about it but wanted to recheck it so I pulled it again two weeks later and came back at 2.0. Thankfully I have a great doc. I requested a 3T MRI which was done and all returned negative. 3T MRI's are probably the most advanced at the moment.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4247284/

So, I continued with the Fina and monitoring my psa. Last test it came in at 1.6. Maybe my new normal. At this time I (we) decided to go without it for a period of time and recheck it. Can't remember how long but after a period of time (and no symptoms) we pulled another psa which came back at 7.1 (range 0.0 to 4.0) which was shocking to me. DHT was at 113 (same range as post #1) So.....back on the fina and checked again a few months later and it was down to 4.0.

Shortly thereafter is when I partially tore my bicep tendon. Doc (at my request) wrote me for low dose Var to help with collagen synthesis. Ran that for 8 weeks which was mostly while just on TRT. My current low dose cycle was initiated near the end of the var run. Var as most know is a dht derivative. So, about 6 weeks into the listed cycle I pulled the BW.

To refresh readers minds, Test turns to DHT. Deca turns to DHN. Here's a better description of deca and DHN instead of me typing it out:

5AR can also act on nandrolone (19-nortestosterone) to produce 5α-dihydro-19-nortestosterone (15). This reduced form of nandrolone has a significantly decreased binding affinity for the androgen receptor compared to its parent steroid, testosterone (15). As such, the 5AR conversion of nandrolone to 5α-dihydro-19-nortestosterone in prostatic tissues results in a significantly decreased ability of nandrolone to bind androgen receptors. Theoretically, the end result could be a decrease in prostatic growth with a possible and theoretical effect on lower urinary tract symptoms such as those developed as a result of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). A potential decrease in the rates of alopecia could also be observed . Furthermore, the lack of 5AR in skeletal muscle allows nandrolone to bind strongly to androgen receptors in the muscle and stimulate growth, contributing to its high myotrophic:androgenic ratio (15)

When I initiated the cycle my psa was 4.0. Six weeks in it dropped to 3.4. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share.

I'm bumping this because I don't want it to drop from the top. This needs to be seen by everyone because this is some very good information. To all you guys that are up and coming to this lifestyle, take note! This is the type of info that you guys need to jot down in a notepad. Every time I get the time to get on here for more than a couple of minutes I always have my notebook handy for instances just like this. While it might be boring to the casual 20 year old, this type of first hand knowledge is invaluable to us that are starting to feel the effects of age. Everyone is going to age and if notes are taken from information like this, you'll be all the better for it. I literally have about 200 pages of notes from this forum in the short time I've been here. It doesn't matter how much you know, you can always learn. If you're a "know it all" type, change and start taking notes from these guys that have been doing this stuff for many years. Anyways, sorry to rant Kel, haha. I just love seeing first hand experience like this and it would be a shame for it to get buried. I can't stress enough that all the members here, especially the younger/newer guys, to dedicate a notebook to take notes on solid info and advice such as this.

Interesting study here re Test, DHT and Fina in older hypogonadal men:
