IMHO, nothing tops the 90's BB era.
So for the last week to motivate me I've been watching old shows of the competition back in the 90's, and I must say, today's guys wouldn't even play top 5 against those guys.
You would think today's Pros would be way better looking than those 30 years ago but it seems they just are giant water ballons with no conditioning.
No one comes in peeled and condition like Dorian did back in the day. No one looks like Flex at his peak.
I've seen a few recent interviews with Dorian and he thinks that they don't train as hard as they did and they rely too much on the gear; plus they are taking 3x a more he says.
When I see the pros of today train, they are just going for pumps and no lifting heavy. Ronnie was another story however.
So you'd think with better gear, more technology, more knowledge of nutrition, we'd have better guys but we don't.... What is the real reason for this?Last edited by JuliusPleaser; 12-21-2019 at 11:08 PM.

From the 2000s bodybuilders turned into a chemical war, bodybuilders began to abuse HGH and Insulin to increase their size, which eventually set a new standard in bodybuilding.
Today is very easy to see Phil Heath with pregnant belly!

Everything from our childhoods is better. I couldn’t care less... the genetics haven’t changed so the only difference is the chemicals. If you watch some of these bodybuilder interviews from back then, they were half clueless about the drugs they were taking. If they had what we have today, they’d be taking that and looking like guys now.

Phil has rounder muscle bellies and much better overall aesthetics, but...Phil could never dream of coming in like Yates did. Ive never seen anyone to this day that Yates could do. Just might as well been a piece of stone.
If you look at Flex Wheeler, he gives Philsulin a good run for his money, actually I think Flex takes him some years

I don’t think this new era is as liberal with DNP as the 90s guys were. The old heads all had death face real hard come game day. They nailed their conditioning for sure. The 90s also just had a superstar lineup though.

Training is not the same. There's a YouTube video of Platz taking IFBB Jason "Broku" Lowe through a leg workout. Platz brought this guys body to a place Jason never knew existed.

That's why I follow the Classic Division more than the open division. Guys like Breon and Bumstead are better representations of the golden era of BB.
The focus in the open division is all about mass. The most massive guy usually wins. Conditioning, symmetry, presentation aren't emphasized enough

a lot of guys in the 80s 90s 'golden era' were pretty damn small compared to today. a lot of open bodybuilding mr Olympia competitors weighed in from 180-210 pounds. thats it (and these were the best of the best of that era).
now sure these guys looked great when standing alone. but put them on stage next to a Roelly, Steve Kucklo, etc.. and they would be dwarfed.
