Highbloodpressure and beta blockers

Beta blockers.
If its not the right section F it, its still something that got to do with steroids = High blood pressure/ hypertension if not move it to the right one pls thx

How long have you been?
What are the cons/pros and would you describe the difference between living with and without them?

My self started a few weeks ago, Ive been using atenolol as my bloodpressure after big meals wouldnt amp up and my heart would start racing and I would have it difficult to breathe, now I feel better, sometimes a headache here and there but all round I feel more content.

Actually since I started using it I really started to grow ?
I never miss my meals because of stress which I did and it would always take me a step backwards when I had stressful situations leading up.

ALSO to mention for my hippie homies I smoke weed and sometimes I would get paranoia heart racing but now the adrenaline/heart racing is gone, I feel calm even being stoned during any kind of socialing

I'm assuming your ON a cycle?

First of all. I suggest you cut sodium chloride and replace it with potassium choloride (No Salt brand). It still tastes like sale.

But assuming you do that, have they tried putting you on an ACE inhibitor before they went for the beta blocker?. I suggest you talk to you physician about the side-effects of the atenolol. Difficulty breathing is a serious side effect and there are other options.

I get paranoid from weed. Rise above it if it's causing your problems. Your friends will still be your friends if you're not stoned.

I dont smoke now during the day, I only have a joint at evening after training, weed is not my problem

As for my physician, theres no physician.. they bust my balls for using “protein” as they say.. let alone mention steroids or BB

I started atenolol first to treat my panic disorder, I would get adrenaline rush daily and couldnt control it, now I feel much better, thats the point of medications right?

I started this thread wrong, my problem is not HBP or weed
My problem is Panic Disorder or PTSD, And I wanted to have your experience the ones who have been using it for the same purpose

I've been using Atenolol for several years.. I take 25mg every night before bed.
this has been a game changer for me. not necessarily for blood pressure though (I take an ace inhibitor when on cycle and blood pressure is high).. but the atenolol I will likely be on for life.

it keeps my heart from racing and skipping beats. my resting heart rate used to be around 100 , now its in the 60s. I used to constantly get heart palpations and just laying in bed heart would skip beats and then race up to like 130+ just laying there. was way worst on cycle obviously.

with atenolol I'm all good. it blocks adrenaline and epinephrine from the heart. another interesting thing. I used to do cardio on a treadmill always at a 4 incline 4 pace and my heart rate was like 125 ,, now with atenolol I do that same cardio and heart rate only gets to 100.

it also helps with anxiety. calms me down a bit. it does make me just a bit sleepy but thats why I take it before bed.

Any hangover like effect in the morning?

I have a little too much activation. Have tried all ADHD drugs, clonidine, guafenison and klonopin. Nothing has worked enough to offset other things I didn't like about the drugs.

hard to tell with all the damn whisky :)

on a serious note though , no not at all . when I'm not drinking and hitting it hard I'm up and in the gym at 7am doing cardio for an hour and then doing an accessory workout.. I wake up early , usually 3am. and I'm ready to rock and roll. I think it actually has the opposite effect of that and allows me to relax and get some quality sleep even if its only a few hours of sleep. and I wake up and feel ready to go.

Atenolol gave me no sides.

I been hypertensive all my life.

The increased epinephrine response from tren sent me over 180/110. So I chose a betablocker. It blocks epinephrine at the heart which is exactly what I needed. Got pretty good at balancing out hard stimulants and keeping blood pressure under 140/100.

Thats about as good as I get.

Its likely epinephrine increase or an increased response to epinephrine causing the issue and not vein constriction. The obvious thing is to treat the culprit directly and not fix it via adjusting an unrelated factor such as vein dilation.

There are so many kinds of bp meds on the market no one knows whats best. Thats just my take on it.

I was prescribed metoprolol tartrate for afib. It is essentially the same as atenolol. The difference is the 1/2 life and solubility.
I do not know why metoprolol is usually used for afib and atenolol is not. They both supposedly work.
I have not used metoprolol while cycling so I am going to be monitoring closely. I know the results with atenolol.
My triglycerides may be a little higher on metoprolol.

Metaprolol also has a chronotropic and ionotropic effects, it slows down rate and ejection force (amount of blood pumped with each contraction as measured in the left ventricle. While atenolol and Metaprolol are of the same class, non-selective B1, one has more effects than the other.

I gotta research but I think I remember that one of their effects can be described as neural because they tone down the intensity. I don't have the right words for it but essentially, mitigates sympathetic nervous activation (fight-flight response) in the cardiovascular system. Vasodilation, rate, ejection force, are the general targets but they do it by blocking activation originating in the brain. So, gather the epinepherine, nro-epi and other stress hormones are the target in order to block their activation in the cardiovascular.

When I worry about taking them, I'm thinking of lower heartbeat moving less blood causing less O2 to get to the tissues. If however, I could avoid that and just have less INTENSITY (less reactivity to the environment and less ARRRGGGHHHHH!!! -type negativity.

Does the Metoprolol help control your BP or keep it in range?

I have high BP. I've tried Metroprolol and an ARB (Losartan). Neither one of them really did much to control my BP.

Losing faith in BP meds, don't seem to really work for me.

During the day it makes me sleepy too and drowsy, but before bed next day all fine. does it still have the effect of blocking epinephine, adrenaline the following day since half life is 6-7 hrs?

I take it for afib, but my BP has dropped to about 117/75.
There are two types of metoprolol. I am taking metoprolol tartrate, the fast acting one with a short 1/2 life. I take one it 2x day.

I'm on Losartan and Atenolol. Atenolol does work to control those adrenaline surges and heart beat skips I used to get. I also don't freak out on weed as much either. My blood pressure has dropped 15-20 points. I average around 125/70 if I'm relaxed.

I don't know if any of you taking BP experience this, but I get delayed ejaculation. I do get drowsy sometimes during the day, but I'm not sure if that's from the meds or my sleep apnea. That's been my experience so far.

The ejaculation part I did also notice, Its kinda a loss of sensitivity down there, No more mind muscle connection lol

There are a lot of different medications to try. You can also make donations at the blood bank and that will lower your pressure a bit too.

Also what is your diet like? Soda? Salt? Fast Food? Processed foods from the freezer section? 7-11 food? Chips? Candy? Making little changes in this can make big differences in your health. I'd say take more potassium in your diet, but you take Losartan, so you gotta be careful with that. You don't want hyperkalemia.

Sorry, I just double-checked and it's Lisinopril, not Losartan. I used to take Losartan.

I take 40 mg Lisinopril in the morning, and 40 mg at night.

Atenolol, I split a 25 mg tab in half and take half in the morning, and half at night.
