What did you take in your previous cycles?

I would recommend taking HCG from week 1. I also highly recommend you read Planning my First Cycle. It doesn't matter if you have cycled before, that article answers a lot of questions relevant to your first or fiftieth cycle.

12 week 500 iu a week?

That is the recommended minimum and likely an adequate dose. You really just want to maintain some minimum function to make PCT easier. TRTers will use HCG in the hopes of maintaining testicle size, so if that is important to you, it's just another reason to use HCG from week 1.
