    Thyroid testing

I had my thyroid removed. The Dr is trying to find the correct dosage of T4- I believe.
I have a lab request for
Thyroglobulin and TSH only. Why wouldn’t he test T4 and T3??

No clue Charger. Did you ask him/her? Could always call the office and ask his nurse or MA

They should have also tested your T3 to make sure that your T4 is being converted properly, some people don't convert T4 to T3 efficiently, but I've read that you can overcome that in most cases by increasing the T4 dosage. Technically monitoring T4 levels and evaluating your symptoms alone could be enough to get you in the correct range, but I would argue that it's not as efficient.

Since you typically have to get several blood tests in a row to get your T4 dosage in the correct range after a thyroidectomy you can just request the T3 test next time, I would.

Also as a note, some people have so few enzymes for converting T4 to T3 that no amount of T4 will solve their hypothyroidism and they will require T3, that's rare, and I'm sure your Doc would eventually clue in and test your T3... but I would personally be proactive about it.

I have an appointment tomorro. He said that he would explain.
Now my TSH is fucked up. It was 12 + at T4 125. It was 3+ at T4 dosage at 150. Now it is 10+ at T4 175.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
Now I am scared shitless to see the thyroglobulin. That’s all I need ... a relapse.

Went to the Dr. and he explained.
He says that the conversion to T3 happens intracellular and it throws things off. He says that the TSH is the best way to check the levels. He also stated that the TSH is logrythmic so a small change in T3 can be a big variance in TSH.
He was not concerned about the large difference. He is upping the T4 to 200 mcg. I told him at the very beginning that I would be around 200 mcg. Maybe I can lose some more fat. LOL
My thyroglobulin came out <.2- whooooo hooooo!!!
I was scared there for a minute.
