    Taking my lumps

Well my brothers, I need a little advice.

For about 3 months now, I can’t seem to take an injection without getting a ridiculous knot. Even my weekly TRT pin is lumping me up like grandma’s potatoes.

I’ve been powering through and doing the basics like changing needles, rotating sites, tried switching up labs (RX test is doing it too) and warming my oil. The only thing I’m thinking is maybe I’m plunging too fast? I always seem to be short on time. I’m also massaging the muscle afterwards as well (for like 20 seconds)

My glutes and shoulders are my favorites but I can’t get to either cheek right now (golf balls) and probably rolling to quads tomorrow, because even a shoulder has some swelling.

I’m two weeks into a blast and this shit is already old. I’ve never run into this issue before (not with this consistency anyways)

Anyone else run into this out of the blue? Maybe I’m just fucking old? Having to pin 3X a week now and don’t feel like going sub q (too many pins and too much volume) what else am I missing?

    Thoughts?

Have you tried a hot shower before you pin to help relax? I've noticed I get less soreness and it's less likely to form a knot, if I inject in to a muscle that I'm going to work within an hour or so later. But yeah, I think massaging the muscle and getting relaxed before you pin will help a lot.

For me, pinning quads always would cause a knot and I'd likely knick a vein and end up in a major coughing fit.

I’ll admit to nit always showering, I need to make sure I always do. Also may try lying on my side to pin glutes and taking the pressure off of the muscles

I was dealing with the knot issue in medial gluten for quite a while. I bought a hard foam roller & started using that every day. I place the foam roller on the floor, & just roll on top of it. Hurts like he'll, at times, but I'm convinced it works.

Awesome, thank you. I have a foam roller and yet another reason to put it to work. Glad to know I’m not alone.

Mine is on the medial side as well and is currently bilateral, I’ve had enough pains in my ass to last me 1000 lifetimes. Good looking out Flexin, appreciated

    We've noticed....

But on topic, have you switched gear? Different carrier oil? Seems odd that it just started happening so that points me in that direction.

I thought if I just kept a “Sil” amount of axe body spray on, no one would notice…

    I did actually.

My TRT RX changed genetics and I switched UGL’s for my blast as well. I’ll check the carrier oils, good call.

Besides upping my shower game, I’ve been heating the oil under hot H2O and going super slow. So far so good, but my ass still feels like Mee Maws potatoes

I don’t have much to offer other than what’s already been said but I have dealt with this same issue from time to time. Seems like no matter what I do I just can’t get away from PIP and a big fat lump at the injection site. I don’t switch gear or needles it just seems like it just happens for a couple weeks here and there for no rhyme or reason.

Never ever massage the muscle after. I know that advice follows the book, but its rubish.
Sometimes i had the problem too. I always massaged.
After i stopped massaging, i never get a bump.
U simply massage the oil out towards the skin. Thats not good. We use long needles to avoid oil in the outer area.

Have you swapped out each gear vial you are using with a different brand and ideally different concentration? And/or using water based suspension? And, do you draw with one needle, and inject with a fresh one? Foam rolling, as mentioned works well afterward. When I occasionally get a lump I use the foam roller hard until its gone.

Totally agree. Zero need to massage. Hell, you've already irritated the area by injecting and now massaging it makes it worse.
That logic is right up there with taking a hot shower prior to injecting.

Ironically my hot water heater took a shit 3 days before Christmas. The pump I needed was hard as hell to track down and took forever to arrive (weather and shipping delays) then the hot water heater at my gym broke too!

It was a miserable week of “showers” with the teapot and towels, it was subzero temps (FML). I’ll never take a hot shower for granted again, strangely I’ve been lump free for the most part since this post though, so maybe they helped?

Havent got a lump in years. I do all my injections in the early morning hours right after the hot shower I get. I preheat the oil on the stove, draw up sit my needle down on the edge of the counter wipe down with alcohol and dart. Never aspirate or any of that shit and done. Idk, just works for me. I have no science to prove any of it works for you nerdy juicers it just fuckin works bros lol. Oh and heating gear doesnt effect the quality in my opinion. But as most of this stuff goes, just my experiences.

    Happy juicing from Cuz

Shit heating the gear makes it a lot easier to shoot too. And that alone will make bruising less likely.

heating only thins the oil and can speed up or make the injection easier. I don't see how it can effect bruising though as the oil should be pushed in slowly.

I think a lot of the lumps can be attributed to people forcing the oil into scar tissue. Not necessarily in S&D's case, but I've noticed over the years, people have posted about knotting up post injection.

As you walk through the possibilities.....new gear/carrier oil/type of solvent, size of needle used, muscle relaxed or tensed up, one common factor seems to be scar tissue. Some guys find an easy injection site and ride that thing like a stolen Schwinn.

I know it took me several months to get in position for glute injections. I would get the wife to verify I was in the correct quadrant, and while I supported the syringe, she slowly depressed the plunger.

Oh I’m guilty of “riding it like a stolen Schwinn”…I know from imaging tests that I’ve amassed some scar tissue as well in my glutes and that’s probably exacerbating my issue. Time to find some more virgin ground….good call

If you don't have to push as hard to get it out, you're going to be more steady with the needle and not jerking it in and out as much. Plus if it flow out easier, you can still shoot it slowly and the muscle won't feel like it's getting hit as hard.

Not disagreeing, just a different perspective.

Ever notice when we inject ourselves we are slow and deliberate and rarely do we get sore. Go to the doctors office and get an injection and it's the exact opposite. Slam the pin in and push the contents in as fast as possible. Like they're late for somehing.

That's true. That nurse goes as fast as she can. You'd think she'd want to take her time and score some overtime pay.

Makes you realize how callous some can be!

Another point of contention with Doctors offices is when they rush you in, immediately sit you down and the nurse takes your BP. Then tell you it's a little elevated! No shit, WTF! I've refused several when they want to immediately do it and make them wait until the other crap is done first. Always pissed me off. Rant over.

I've heard them tell me that people's BP is regularly higher in the doctor's office. They'll try to say it's the stress of being there. They never even think it's because they checked it as soon as they walked them in to the room and sat them down. They don't even give 5 minutes so you can settle down.

So true about the BP, luckily I’ve had good nurses and MA’s that recognize that though. I got a speeding ticket one time on my way to a physical, my BP was through the ROOF when they took it. I explained the situation, they had me relax and complete the rest of the exam and tested it again…it was basically half of what my original baseline was (maybe the finger in the ass helped?)

I'm confused. The finger in the ass makes you relax? Or did I read that wrong?

I was a bit confused also. LOL Was it the finger in the ass that calmed you or did you have to calm to get the finger in your ass??

Either way, why do they have their finger up your ass when they're giving you a flu test?

You mean you guys don’t get a finger in the ass during a flu shot?

Oh man, I’ve made a mess of this thread.

The FITA (yes I made it into an acronym) was during a physical (given my history it’s now a part of the routine).

As far as relaxing, I wish it made me relaxed. I’d be like Buddha if it did, unfortunately my clinch game is still strong.

Back to what I managed to lose in translation was that the BP cuff came back on after everything was completed and it had dropped. Who knows maybe there’s a correlation there?!

Contemplating giving 27’s a try and just heating the shit out of the barrel under hot water first? Worth a shot (pun intended)

What about in the 2 to 3 cc range? That’s where I’ve been rolling with the 25 x 1”

Think you can push 2-3 with a 27 if it’s heated?

I made the mistake of using like 22gauge on my first cycle. Fucking painful lol.

Couch was the one I believe who convinced me to try much smaller needles. Like 27s. Wayyy better.

But then I started using 28 gauge insulin syringes. I believe they’re also .5”. Which actually goes deep enough to at least get through my subcutaneous fat even on my ass. I just make sure to really push it in to get an extra 1/4” or so deeper. If that made sense.

I started doing delt shots using those 28s and I haven’t looked back since. Alternating both cheeks and both delts doing EOD injections so the volume is small.

Prefer delts with 28x.5” though. I feel like it really goes IM as opposed to my ass since it’s a s short needle.

    How often you injecting?

    I use a 25 x 1 the same as you do.
I have no doubt you could but you'll be there a while....
