Hair loss. Is finasteride worth it?
32 years old and been having some hair loss and hair thinning. Currently use minoxidil twice a day, along with nizoral shampoo and derma rolling as well.
I'm thinking of starting fin. I already have prescription of 1 mg a day but am nervous to start and have a few questions.
1. Are the horror stories you hear about sides true?
2. Plan on trying for another kid soon. Heard it can lower sperm count and affect fertility and possible birth defects?
3. Does it hinder with gains in the gym?

If you're nervous (about side effects), it's possible .5mg finasteride most days of the week could effectively help slow the inevitable. Recently quit finasteride after 20+yrs, it's indeed a difficult drug to recommend to loved ones. If you were to get a hair transplant, would be an easier decision to commit to a 5α-reductase inhibitor.
Horror stories are absolutely based in truth, however fertility and birth defects are n/a. Unfortunately screwing with your neurosteroids varies person to person, but hindering gains in the gym is generally not front of mind. GL!

Skimming your recent posts, it's unclear whether you're overdoing your testosterone dosage. After successfully knocking up your better half, do you feel you could cut your biologic test dosage by half (or greater)? Maybe integrating 19-nortestosterone (deca ) could hedge your hormone replacement therapy strategy to combat mpb.

1 for some men, yes.
2 personally, I would not touch finasteride if I were even thinking about trying to conceive.
3 it can for some.
Some men handle the trashing of DHT reasonably well, others do not. If you do try it, start with microdosing. Even 50mcg (yes micrograms) can lower DHT by 25 to 50 percent IIRC.

If you can get your hands on liquid finasteride, topical use has been effective in clinical testing. It's not FDA approved though.
Really though, you're just buying time with it. If you're going to lose your hair, you're going to lose your hair. If hair matters that much to you, consider transplants. But with that I'd really suggest you do your homework and get somebody good.

I’ll tell you finasteride SCARES ME! I went on it for a few months with rogaine 2x a day with great results but felt crappy. I mean it lowers one of our most important hormones, especially for looks and performance.
I have undergone an FUE surgery with fantastic results and plan on going back if I loose
More. With FUE I won’t have the hair line of a 24 year old but I have hair, it looks good, and best of all ZERO sides. At the the end of the day finasteride works but not worth the risk for me

I took finasteride for a couple of years. Can’t tell you how well it worked or the sides cause I feel like my hormones were all over the place. It would be better to try it yourself, when you are not on a cycle, and not preparing to get your girl pregnant. Even then, how do you know it’s the finasteride working and not the lower dose of test not converting to DHT? You can only be sorta sure if the only variable is the finasteride, over a long period of time.
With the Derma rolling, I’ve read that anything deeper than 1.5mm could damage the hair follicle and result in more balding. I got a derma pen that is 1.5 mm and seems to work pretty well. My hair definitely improved a bit since getting off trt (for fertility reasons) and starting micro needling and minoxidil again.

Hello gents .
I was on 5mg until I read all the side effects about a week ago . I had been on it about 2weeks and it already made me feel crappy and many much deeper side effects to it than Dr or Forum seem to fully disclose .
SIDES , (From memory)
1) Lose of size of penis
2) Lose of intensity during orgasan
3) I know of no proven medical test on finasteride for hair . Factual - placebo/blind study
4) Lessen Libito
1) IMHO These reasons alone should make you say no . Additionally there are many more deep rooted medical issues that it causes and stated side effects . The Dr that prescribe this medication are not even thinking like you and I . They only see tunnel vision and that is prevent or stimulate hair growth . Like for my event I have prostate cancer and long story short it could not be removed so I am sent to an Oncologist and he scripted 5mg a day : for scheduled radiation of the ASAP . So they are radiating the prostate , why try to shrink it and have a person feel like shit before they have to. I have been doing this self trial of meds and peptides and HGH . But anyway he scripts it for me and about a week in I felt less driven buy the 2nd week I felt like crap so I started a search for different compounds I have been taking , I got to finasteride I about dropped my teeth due to all the side effects . I stopped that day and told the Dr take it off my med list ; I would not be taking it anymore . So do your research and you decide . As one of my no longer taking meds my vote is 100% no . I already have cancer do they want me to feel like crap and maybe die of cancer to . Not me I will live life to it's fullest until I draw my last breath . Not in some cancer rehab center of home on the couch miserable ( HELL NO )
Oh ; thank you I had my rant . I have done my part to save the world ! NOW GO LIVE LIFE WIDE OPENLast edited by BuzzardMarinePumper; 02-08-2023 at 10:27 AM.

Wow that even cheaper than my russian Pharma grade finasteride I guess not I pay $40.00 for 100 Russian Finasteride and they come in 1mg and I believe that was what I actually started with because they are 1mg and until I spoke with the Dr I had no idea the proper dose and for long term shrinkage of the prostate . But I would not chance it for that if you are going to have it reproved . I choose to micro dose Deca and counter with 20mg more than normal taking just test . Deca has many benefits in lifting and cutting and muscle mass , most importantly Deca help relieve joint pain . The only thing I risk that with is side effects and benefits . When lifting serious or trying to be healthier Deca has way more benefits than negative sides .

I have a bunch I will not be using if anyone’s interested. I filled a few scripts just incase I ever decided to use it while “on”. I will not be using

I know, right? Costco is nailing it on trying to keep prices down. I'm sure other companies do as well, but dang, man that is like 11 cents per tab for the "hair loss" dose. So even if your insurance didn't cover it, you are out 10 bucks every 90 days for legit us pharma grade drugs.

All I can beggingly ask is you research the sides of finasteride . Shrink your dick for ever not to regain that rock hard hard on nor enjoy an orgsam as much and loose your libido . That is like a Punishment for child molesters they will not be getting any brown ey with a limp noodle .........

Oh I'm very much aware of the negatives associated with Fina and the tanking of DHT. Never again. But 50 mcg once a week if your DHT is in the 200s like mine was probably will get you into the low 100s, maybe 90s if you are lucky. Still well over range and unlikely to cause issues.
I should point out that I believe the negatives associated with finasteride use aren't from the drug itself, but the effects of bottomed out DHT. Some men handle it well, I did not.

I don't think it is a universally "bad" thing. It really does come down to how well you tolerate tanked out dht. Kelkel handles it well, evidently, and I suspect a lot of men do. But there are definitely those that don't.
Also, I strongly urge you to look up the dose response curve on various doses of finasteride. The difference between 1mg and 5mg doses is not 5x, but rather the difference between something like 65% reduction vs 80% reduction. Numbers might be off a bit, thus the encouragement for you to research it independently.

Wow, guess I’m fortunate. Been using 5mg. for a couple of decades & never had issues (I went off it when I was using tren & mast, but that was briefly). It helps for my hair (particularly after what mast did to it). Libido & getting wood? Libido is fine, but have been using viagra as needed.
I’ll consider myself lucky, plus it’s covered by my health plan.

I know so many times we time anything the juice community uses is ok . Most of the time true and we have to see if the positives out weight the sides . Please just google it and look at the sides ........... Maybe your penis is shrinking and you did not notice . JKN man if I were serious all the time no one would believe it is me ......... Take it easy man and be careful take care of you !

Well you know, I’ve never used HCG & my ball’s have shrunken significantly. So that’s why my dick looks bigger?!? I’ll look at the sides more, but simply can’t pull off a shaved head & Viagra does good by me when it’s go time, so, I’ll likely stick with the fin. Peace & love to ya buddy!

Found one of my original threads on it below. There's another somewhere where I tracked different doses but it may have been on another members thread. Read the link in the thread as well, at least the conclusion.

I have to reap some of what I said . At 5mg per day I started to grow new hair and gray hair turning brown again . I also have been on HGH for over a yr now and that may have an impact as well ? I do know the Finasteride at 5 mg a day killed my drive in every area from desire for sex to almost depression. I still have gray but I do have to say I have more dark hair than gray at my age .

It will slow down the hair loss. How much depends upon what you are genetic predisposed to lose. If you’re 32 and starting to see some thinning in the crown and temples, you may be able to keep most of it well into your golden years (if you even cared at that point). I was predisposed to lose the whole head of hair like my grandfather. He lost it all by his early thirties. I was able to slow it down where by my early 40’s it was pretty much 60% gone. That is still a good decade.

I used it for a couple of years broke a pr on my bench press and had a kid so no issues for that with me, however it only does so much in my opinion so I just shaved my head and kept cruising, going bald kinda sucks but after a while it doesn’t matter one bit with chicks or anything else in my personal experience
