    Anyone here on beta blockers?

Dr put me on metoprolol 25 mgs. Only concern I have is my cardio and fat loss. Seems like staying shredded will be harder as the heart rate doesn't get as high on it

Wanted to see if anyone else is on it and if you think it hinders you at the gym or hinders your physicque?

I've been on that dose and drug for years. I don't think it really affects me much at all. It's not going to be a determining factor in your physique. If anything it will help you stay calmer, decrease your blood pressure, and make you healthier in the long run.

If it drops your heart rate, it's not going to be to any degree that you will notice without being hooked up to a machine that can measure heart rate. If anything, because your heart rate is a little lower, you'd be able to push harder.

But yeah I'd be more worried about ED.

Personally, I put priority on maintaining my BP, vs. needless worry about your beta blocker hindering your cardio efficiency.

Better to stay healthy than potentially be frail and decimated by dialysis because your kidney function is impaired.

Thanks man. I'm a firefighter so don't want my cardio to hurt too much at work though

If you're a firefighter, a beta blocker will help keep you calm.
Personally, I wouldn't use Cialis yet if you've just been put on the Lopressor/metopropol. Make sure that beta blocker agrees with you. Some people tolerate it well. I hated Metopropol....Coreg/carvedilol works better for me.

I wouldn't start piggybacking too many meds. You may not have any ED sides from your meds.

Take it one step at a time. Work with your cardiologist/PCP to manage/ tweak your meds. Keep a logbook if you notice you don't feel right so you can share the information with your healthcare professional.

Shortness of breath, fatigue. You'll know if it doesn't agree with you. The good thing is there are plenty of others that you can try.

I get the feeling you worry a lot. Don't let your mind play tricks on you. If you think you might be a little tired, don't let your mind immediately tell you it's the the Lopressor. However, if you are constantly short of breath and extremely fatigued, then yeah ...time to talk to your Dr.

That's why I encourage you to keep a logbook.

Something H_K pointed out earlier about beta blockers. The slower rate of contractions usually gives you more efficient cardiac output.

    Keep that in mind.

Yeah, it will end up being able to more efficiently. It's not going to be that drastic of a difference though (especially at 25mgs per day).

I lifted for years with it (although I don't currently take a beta blocker) and made gains without any hinderance at all. But you know the OP has his priorities skewed if he's worried about how it will affect his gains and physique. Living a longer life with a higher quality of life is a lot more important than pushing weights at the gym or bodybuilding. Maybe it's because he's 27 and doesn't think about 10 years from now much less 20-30 years in the future. To me, living to see 70 or 80 and not being strapped to a dialysis machine everyday is more important than lifting weights and I do love to train.

But no, 25mg of metoprolol is not going to ruin your physique, OP.
