Stronger people have thicker muscle fibers with shorter fiber lengths and fibers arranged at steeper angles than 'weak' people. Bodybuilders who do high-tension, low-speed exercises generally have short, thick fibers and the fibers lie at a very steep angle (called pennation angles). Bodybuilders who do low-force, high-velocity movements generally have longer fibers that lie at flatter angles. Australian researchers found that subjects who took anabolic steroids ( testosterone enanthate-- approximately 200mg per week) developed shorter fibers with steeper angles than those who only trained with weights but didn't take steroids. Steroids can speed the process of changing fiber structure. The study used a low dosage of steroids compared to the dosage many bodybuilders use. It showed that steroids not only oncrease muscle strength and size, but also change basic muscle structure
